Going to multiple holiday parties (Work. Friends. Family.) in a short period can be daunting, but getting your glam on to make a great impression doesn't have to be. Our experts share what's hot and doable in festive hair and makeup for busy moms this season. From rocking heatless waves to mastering the perfect red lip, these tips will more than ready you for party time.
Hair
1.
In a rush? Try the quickest holiday hairstyle ever: the side part.
[post_ads]"For an easy day-to-night transformation, switch up your look for an evening party by creating a deep side part—a sleek and sexy look," says Deborah Gavin, international artistic director for Keratin Complex Color Therapy. Use a hairspray like Keratin Complex Flow on your part, and pin hair down to allow it to set and dry. (It comes in handy if your hair initially resists falling where you want it to).
2.
Give your hair some extra oomph with a texturizer.
Another easy hairdo enhancement: "Simply flip your head over and spray from far away, focusing at the root," says Jennifer Matos, stylist at Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. She recommends Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, a product that instantly adds body to hair.
3.
Rock this simple way to get waves.
No time to bother with a curling iron, but still want some waves? Matos recommends this heatless method, ideal for longer hair. "Braid your hair in three-strand braids—at least four sections of your head, including sides and back. After braiding your sections, run your hands in water and dampen your braids a little, but don't drench them. Then let them set for at least two to three minutes. (Touch-up your makeup while your hair is setting.) After setting, unbraid your hair, finger comb it, and you'll have instant natural waves." For longer-lasting waves, put your hair in braids hours ahead of your party (if you can) and unbraid them before you head out.

Back-to-back holiday parties? Try this blowout saving trick.
If you're choosing to get a blowout or do your own before a party: "The best way to make your blow dry last is by twisting your hair loosely as high as you can get it and fasten with large hair pins," says Matos. "Five usually does the trick. This will help prevent any dents or marks in your blow out."
Makeup
Look for a long-lasting red lipstick to save you from having to do multiple touch-ups in the bathroom. |
For the perfect red lip, don't skip the lip liner.
You want your lips to look neat, not sloppy, so add this extra product to your routine. "The easiest way to achieve fabulous red lips that last all day is to start by lining your lips with a waterproof lip liner, then fill out the entire lip area with the same lip liner, then finish by applying a thin coat of your favorite long-lasting red lipstick. You can choose matte, shiny or metallic lipstick finish depending on your mood," says Ramon Alberto, makeup artist at Palladio. His recommendations: Retractable Lip Liner in Red Rose topped with Velvet Matte Metallic Lip Color in Ritzy.
6.
Find the perfect green eyeshadow for your complexion.
[post_ads]Thinking of going extra festive with your eye makeup? Opt into green shadow. "The secret lies in choosing the right shade of green for your skin tone," says Alberto. "As a rule of thumb, light skin tones should wear lighter green shades and dark skin tones look better with rich, dark emerald shades. To play up bold eyes, keep the rest of the face in natural tones with a soft peach blush, nude lipstick or lip gloss, and a hint of illuminator."
7.
Swap out your usual makeup for brighter colors.
Pulling off fun, holiday makeup is as easy as choosing a brighter or bolder shade than your usual. Says Marlu Soria, makeup artist at Hair Room Service: "Switch out your black or brown kohl eyeliner for a deep navy blue, maybe even one with some glitter, if you're feeling extra adventurous. I like drawing the liner a little thicker, and don't worry if it's a little uneven—sloppy is good! Lightly smudge it out with a cotton bud and voilà! Easy, smokey lids!"
8.
Try these foolproof color combinations for eyes and lips.
You can't go wrong using deep reds with gold or olive greens with neutrals, suggests beauty influencer and YouTuber Kelly Strack, with Deck of Scarlet, a beauty subscription service that sends users a palette to create multiple makeup looks every two months.
9.
Get snapshot-ready with strategic products.
Prepare for selfies by strategically choosing your makeup. "Definitely use HD foundation and concealer if you want to look your best in pictures. It will be undetectable on the skin, and it doesn't have to break the bank as drugstores now offer a lot of great HD options," says Strack. "Steer clear of translucent setting powder and products with SPF, which tend to flash back in flash photography!"

10.
Embrace metallic.
Here's a fun way to draw attention to your eyes that isn't as messy as using glitter pigments: "Metallic shadows have the perfect amount of glitter to give you an easy and flattering festive look," says Alberto. To do a metallic eyeshadow-based look, "use an eyeshadow primer all over the lids, then apply matte eye shadow all over the eyelid. Next, apply metallic eyeshadow to the crease, starting at the outer corner of the eye just above the top lashes, and blend it along the eyelid where the brow bone hits the crease. Dab a highlighter shade to the inner corner of the eye and just underneath the brow to open up your eyes and lift your brows. Finish by lining the top and bottom lash line with black eyeliner and a couple of coats of mascara."
