Back facials, they're a thing, and it turns out lots of celebrities
are getting them before big events these days. To find out what all the
fuss is about, I drove to the facialist Kát Rudu's
Skin Studio in Venice for the Glowing Jet Set Back Treatment. But I
hadn’t really considered that I would literally be getting a facial, on
my back, until Rudu broke out the face cleanser. She then proceeded to
basically go through all of the steps she’d do in a traditional facial,
just on my back.
[post_ads]First, the celebrity facialist (Rudu makes Kate Beckinsale and Stella Maxwell's backs glow) cleansed my back with her own line’s Coco Honey Papaya Enzymes Cleanser. It smelled amazing — fresh and citrus-y without being overpowering — and felt even better.
Next came the sheet masks. As in, she literally laid facial sheet masks across my back. l had an LED light shining down on me, all these sheet masks on my back, and I was just lying there, feeling the warmth from the light and relaxing. When the masks came off, my skin felt tighter (makes sense, since Rudu uses about $500 worth of SK-II masks in her back facials).
But my favorite part came next. Rudu used an oxygen machine — just like you’d get in a facial — to infuse serums all over until my skin was so super hydrated. (Just like the cleanser, the serum smelled so good and citrusy, and I love that her products are all natural and organic.) She finished with a glowy fake tan situation — a gel bronzer that washes off — and I went and looked at the results. My back was really bright and glossy and glowy. My skin looked plump and toned. Three days later, and it still looks amazing — I’m going as backless as I can, whenever I can. Even when I’m working out.

It’s not the kind of treatment you’d
normally get on an average Monday, but it is perfect for special
occasions, brides — or, you know, an A-list red carpet event. Rudu told
me that she got the idea to do back facials when one actress moaned
about dry elbows. Rudu did a facial on her elbows, which grew into doing
a facial on her back — and then it became a thing.
Now, Rudu gives her
celebrity clients back facials during red carpet season. She also treats
tons of brides to be at her Skin Studio, which is a super cute room in
Rudu’s house. It feels more relaxing — and more exclusive — than going
to a spa... which it should, if you’re going to be paying $350 for her
back facial. Like I said, it’s a special occasion kind of thing.
