Thanks to Pat McGrath and the ongoing revival of '90s beauty trends, new metallic lipsticks are popping up every day. One of the latest is the Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Lip. The three shades that just launched are like the 2017 version of the frosty shades you fell in love with from Clueless, which, for what it's worth, is celebrating it's twentieth anniversary this year.

[post_ads]Anyway, unlike the chalky lipsticks and sticky glosses that Cher or Dion would pick up at Contempo Casuals (RIP, CC and Wet Seal), the new liquid lipstick is like a non-sticky lip pigment or paint. It has the consistency of creamy gloss, the color payoff of a cream lipstick, and the hydrating finish of a balm. Unlike metallic matte liquid lipsticks, Smashbox's shimmery version doesn't dry down. Instead, it has a glassy mirrored finish like the Lancôme Le Metallique lipsticks.
Like Smashbox's other liquid lipsticks, one layer is all you need. They are that pigmented. We recommend not messing around with a second coat. It will just make your lips feel gloppy and heavy. That's not a good look. Plus, the fluffy crescent moon-shaped applicator makes the metallic formula easy to apply with heart surgeon-like precision.

As for the three new shades, we're obsessed with Brains 'n' Bronze. The rust burgundy shade is surprisingly versatile. Our editors like to swipe it on with a minimalist makeup to make a statement. It's awesome with copper smoky eyes, too. There's also a rose gold shade called Petal Metal. It reminds us of '90s-era Kate Moss. Paired with bold eye makeup like winged liner or a wash of charcoal shadow, it looks modern and fierce. The third of the trio is Mauve Squad. The shade looks incredible on all skin tones. It's a happy medium between the two other shades. It's not too dark, not too light. You could definitely wear this around the office without looking over the top.
And then, of course, gratuitous swatching video below to see the formulas in action.More shades of the Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Lip will launch next month, including some more bright, vibrant hues that are a little bit less neutral than these three. You can shop the OG three, though, now on sephora.com and smashbox.com for $24 each.
