Instagram pictures that have been edited with Photoshop or Facetune are a dime a dozen. However, Witchita, KS.–based hairstylist Amber Unruh didn't edit one of her latest hair posts — though it definitely looks as if she did. The hairstylist shared an image of a neon pink hair she did on one of her clients. At first glance, it looks like she made some tweaks to the image — the colors look too fluorescent to exist in nature, plus the image reminds us (in the best way) of a gorgeous jellyfish exhibit at an aquarium.
[post_ads]Knowing haters would say it's photoshopped, Unruh was hesitant to post the picture. On Monday, she got some encouragement from Ursula Goff, the colorist behind the amazing fine art hair we told you about last week. Goff was doing Unruh's hair as she scrolled through photos of her recent work on her phone. In an Instagram caption, Goff said she "yelled at [Unruh] to get her ass on IG and post it because it's awesome." Luckily for all of us, Unruh complied. In her Instagram caption, she explained that the neon pink hair photo was completely unfiltered. To help the pink hair look so neon, Unruh employed the powers of UV–reactive hair dye — in this case, shades from the indie brand Zombie Snott — and black lights. She held one above her client's head and one below. "The light just reflected really well," she wrote.

So next time you feel like calling out someone's editing skills on Instagram, you might want to consider what the poster used as a light source. Just a thought.
