Getting glitzy may be a hallmark of the holidays, but beyond donning a dress speckled with sequins, adding glitter to your beauty look
doesn’t always feel very doable. Let’s be real, unless you’re a pop
star, coating yourself in sparkles isn’t exactly realistic for most
people, most of the time—even during the most wonderful time of the
year. Thankfully, just because you work a 9 to 5 or simply prefer a
subtler style doesn’t mean you have to forgo updating your makeup
with glitter. With a few tips, there’s more than one way to attempt
this beauty trend and add glitter to your makeup look, whether it’s
through your lip color, eye makeup, or face makeup.
Tip #1: Line Your Eyes
Chances are you’ve considered dousing
your eyelids in glitter, but that isn’t the only option for adding
sparkle and shimmer to your eye makeup look. Your eyeliner
can get in on the action, too! Instead of creating a cat eye with your
regular old liquid eyeliner, reach for a glitter eyeliner to do the
honors. After smoothing on an eye primer to help ensure your look stays
put, swipe on the glitter eyeliner just as you would any other kind.
Tip #2: Keep Things Centered
If you just can’t stand to part with your black eyeliner (check out the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner in Black for a recommendation), you can still incorporate glitter into your eye makeup routine. Start by applying eyeshadow, using the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Pocket Palette Eye Shadow in Boudoir Charme.
Then, place a small amount of a glitter primer on the center of each
eyelid, overtop of the eyeshadow. Before it dries, top it with a loose
gold glitter and there you go—just enough glitz to spice up your style.
Tip #3: Play Up Your Pout
Covering your lips completely with
glitter may not work, but there’s no reason you can’t add just a touch. A
few well-placed sparkles and your lip color won’t only be eye catching,
but the shine can actually make your lips look bigger. Totally
tempting, right? For your lipstick, apply the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Shine Lipstick in Enamel Red, then add a bit of lip gloss
to the center of your lips—that’s what the glitter will stick to. Using
a coordinating shade of glitter, press it into the lip gloss with a
makeup brush. Then you’re free to pucker up!
Tip #4: Top Your Cheeks
Highlighters
may not be quite as bold as all out glitter, but they’re still packed
with sparkle and shine. That’s why, when you’re searching for a way to
add glitter to your holiday makeup look, applying it in place of
highlighter should be a no brainer. While hitting all the highpoints of
your face with a glitter dipped fan brush might be too much for most,
sweeping a little glitter just above your blush should work for everyone. And just in case you’re really hoping to stand out from the crowd, you can layer glitter over the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops.
Tip #5: Don’t Forget Your Body
Body glitter may sound super ‘90s, but let us remind you that the ‘90s are back. ‘90s inspired makeup trends
are popping up left and right, and body glitter is no exception. When
an occasion comes around that suits a plunging neckline or a bare back,
you all but need a dose of glitter to finish off the look. Mix a pinch
into your body lotion and smooth it onto any exposed skin. Easy and
effective!
Editor’s tip: Not all glitters are
created equal! While it may be tempting to reach for whatever you have
left over from your last arts and crafts project, make sure to stick to
using glitters that are specifically meant for cosmetic application.
