Melt-Proof Makeup

Keep your face looking fresh even on the steamiest days with these secrets from Mathew Nigara, a N.Y.C. New York Color makeup artist.

Make Lip Color Last

Toss the goopy glosses. Instead, opt for a long-lasting stain, like Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain by ColorStay (drugstores). It has a balm on one end for when you need a burst of moisture.

Go Easy on the Eyes

Prevent the raccoon look by pairing a waterproof mascara, like CoverGirl LashBlast Length Waterproof Mascara (drugstores), with a smudge-proof shadow. A new one: Avon SuperShock Vivid Liquid Eyeshadow (avon.com).

Glow for It

Get a healthy flush by dabbing a gel blush on your cheeks with a sponge. Try NARS Multiple Tint (narscosmetics.com), which is bright yet translucent for a lit-from-within pop of color.

Shiny, Happy Hair

Exercising in the scorching heat or swimming laps in the pool can zap the radiance right out of your locks. Boost your shade with these DIY tips from Lorri Goddard-Clark, a colorist in Los Angeles.

Blondes

Counteract brassiness and remove product buildup by mixing together a quarter cup of baby shampoo and one tablespoon of baking soda. Coat dry strands with the paste, leave it on for 10 minutes, and then rinse.

Brunettes

After shampooing and conditioning hair, combine a quarter cup each of white distilled vinegar and distilled water and two drops of peppermint oil (to offset the vinegar scent). Saturate damp hair with the leave-in mixture before blow-drying to add instant vibrancy.

Redheads

To reignite your hot hue, boil a quart of water and drop in three chamomile tea bags; steep for five minutes. Remove bags and cool the liquid in the fridge. Then spray the infusion on clean, damp hair and sit in the sun until hair is dry.

Dry Ideas

FITNESS staffers put new antiperspirants to the sweat test: a 10-mile run, two hours of kickboxing, and a cross-training session. Here's how they fared.

The Stick: Secret Clinical Strength (drugstores)

The Claim: It stops sweat with a near-prescription-strength active ingredient and soothes skin with hydrating petrolatum.

The Results: "This is the first time I've gone through an entire workout with no underarm marks."

— Julia Savacool, articles director

The Stick: Degree Women Clinical Protection ($10.99, drugstores)

The Claim: Applied before bed, it blocks sweat throughout the following day and calms sensitivity with skin-softening dimethicone.

The Results: "I loved that I didn't have to reapply it after my workout. This kept me dry from morning to night."

— Elaine Roake, photo director

The Stick: Lady Speed Stick Stainguard ($3.49, drugstores)

The Claim: It contains moisturizing soybean oil and is formulated to prevent yellow marks and smudges on clothes.

The Results: "I stayed odor-free, and it kept icky flakes from showing up on my favorite black workout tee."

— Chee Gates, features writer

Chill Out

If a day at the beach has left you sun parched, quench your skin with one of these soothers.

Vaseline Aloe Fresh Moisturizing Gel ($5.99, drugstores), made with 100 percent natural aloe vera, revives skin on contact.

Spritz pulse points with Dove Go Fresh Body Mist in Cool Essentials ($4.88, drugstores), which contains invigorating cucumber.

Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser ($7.99, drugstores) feels like an icy blast, and its salicylic acid helps banish blackheads.

Olay Total Effects Cooling Hydration ($19.99, drugstores) is packed with mint and water to drench your face in moisture.

Cool Rules

Some of the best hot-weather how-tos came straight from you. Here, our faves.

"Swap out your regular perfume for a scented oil or roller ball; the fragrance doesn't evaporate as you sweat."

— Amber Hermann, Abingdon, Virginia

"Splash your face with cold water before applying makeup. It shrinks pores and stops perspiration, so your base goes on smoothly."

— Lauren Hare, New York City

"Refresh skin by spritzing an equal amount of water and witch hazel on your face and neck. It's stimulating and helps absorb oil."

— Patricia Hubbard, Daytona Beach, Florida

Summer Bummers Solved!

Don't let an unexpected beauty oops ruin your fun in the sun. Here are three quick fixes.

Yikes! Frizzy Hair

The Save: Smooth your strands by massaging in a quarter-size dab of leave-in conditioner, such as L'Oreal Paris EverPure Moisture Leave-In Conditioner ($8.99, drugstores), from your ears down to your ends. Then run a tiny dot of the same conditioner all over your crown.

Yikes! Foundation That Cakes

The Save: Sweep a clean tissue over your face. "This will remove any patches but not your makeup too," says Raychel Wade, a La Prairie color ambassador.

Yikes! An Accidental Sunburn

The Save: Soothe skin with a cold compress of equal parts whole milk and ice water until the stinging subsides. The proteins in the milk will calm inflammation, says Ranella Hirsch, MD, a dermatologist in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Beach Bag Essentials

Pack right with these never-leave-home-without-'em beauty finds.

Tress Treat

Detangle hair with Fekkai Marine Summer Hair Beachcomber Leave-in Conditioner ($23, fekkai.com), a light mist with hydrating peptides.

Bug Blocker

Keep mosquitoes at bay with SmartShield Sunscreen Insect Repellent Towelettes ($20, smartshield.com); the handy sheets also contain SPF 30.

Pout Protector

Along with UV-blocking oxybenzone, Nivea A Kiss of Protection SPF 30 ($2.99, amazon.com) is pumped with moisture-boosting jojoba oil.

Solid Shield

SPF touch-ups couldn't be easier: Kiehl's Cross-Terrain UV Skin Protector SPF 50 ($25.50, kiehls.com) is a spill-proof beeswax balm.

Bronze Winners

Give your face a natural-looking glow with these SPF-rich bronzers. Find the best shade for your skin tone below.

Fair

Sweep water-resistant Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20 in Honey Matte ($42, sephora.com) on your face; its tan-beige tones won't streak or overpower paler skin.

Medium

With two suntan shades, oil-free Clinique Almost Bronzer SPF 15 in Medium/Dark (clinique.com) evens out sometimes sallow medium skin and creates a sexy tawny color.

Dark

Lorac Tantalizer Baked Matte Satin Bronzer SPF 15 (ulta.com) has just the right amount of light-reflecting glimmer particles to instantly brighten your complexion.
