5 Hair Color Trends You're Going to See Everywhere in 2019

What better way to ring in 2019 than with a new hair color? From leaning into the Pantone Color of the Year to seeing some of our favorite 2018 colors continue to flood our Insta feeds, we spoke with Stephanie Brown, master colorist at Eddie Arthur Salon, about five hair color trends that are going to be big next year. Take notes and get ready to be inspired.

Living Coral

How could Pantone's 2019 Color of The Year not make this list? Think of living coral as an edgier version of the very popular pastel pink trend that we've come to know and love.

"It works as an everyday color; it’s soft, easily wearable, yet still empowering and attention-grabbing," Brown says of the hair color. "It enhances everyone’s eye color and softens all skin tones." The shade works best for those with neutral or warm skin tones, but can be adjusted by adding more pink to cool it down or orange to warm it up.

Dirty Blonde

Highlights are the happy medium of elevating your hair color without fully committing to a whole new shade. For blondes, look for a rooted golden blonde or a dirty blonde. "The hair is always brighter as the hairline, but when you shadow the roots to make it slightly darker than the ends and you get a longer wear out of your highlights," she says.

These colors can work on all skin tones because you’re keeping your natural base color. If you have cooler skin tones go with a neutral to warm highlights.

Copper Highlights

If you're brunette, go for more golden and coppery highlights. Brown suggests getting a few "pieceier" highlights over too many highlights throughout to avoid looking brassy.

Snow Bunny Blonde

This is like platinum blonde's cooler sister. "It’s a very pale, heavily highlighted powdery blonde with a slight hint of baby blue," Brown explains. "It’s more neutral and white blonde instead of an ashy blonde.

She says this shade looks best on paler skin tones and neutral to pink skin tones. To modify for other skin tones, go with a more neutral blonde or white rather than the bluish white.

Inky Black

Jet black is both bold and rich. The hair color took over this winter and will continue to do so well into the next year. According to Brown, this shade goes well with the glass hair trend because the black will give the shine you want for the style.

Because of its rich hue, it can wash most skin tones out. While it may work best on olive skin tones, the hair color expert advises using self-tanner or bronzer to add warmth to your skin.
