If your routine hasn't been cutting it for you (read: limp strands, or generally unacceptable levels of frizziness), these tips will help you achieve goal hair.

Don't underestimate the power of wet strands.
[post_ads]As soon as you get out of the shower, pat — don't rub — your hair. "Applying smoothing products while your hair is damp allows it to dry with the weight of the product in it, which keeps the cuticle down and frizz at bay," explains Hadar Leibovitz, a stylist at Salon AKS in New York. Your best bet is a leave-in conditioner like Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Intensely Smooth Leave-In Conditioning Cream — it helps tame frizzy hair.

Make a cocktail.
Sometimes mixing two products means double the effectiveness. "For damaged hair, add a dime-sized amount of oil to a deep conditioner to strengthen your hair and stimulate the roots," says stylist Tym Wallace. One like Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Marvelous Oil Hair Elixir, which contains a blend of avocado, olive, and almond oils, won't drag down fine or thinning hair.

Baby your hair.
[post_ads]Think of damaged hair like cashmere — you wouldn't just toss it into the washing machine with the rest of your clothes, right? So if you regularly color, chemically treat, or style your hair with heat, you need to take a few extra precautions. When using your regular shampoo and conditioner, rinse with lukewarm or cold water only. "Too-hot water can cause excessive dryness and wreak havoc on the hair and scalp," says Wallace. Sapping that moisture from already-damaged hair may give you nothing but breakage. And, once a week, give hair a luxe treatment like Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser Liquid Strength Treatment with Protein, which delivers plant-based protein to strengthen weak strands.

Fake volume with color.
If your problem is soft, fine hair with zero grip or texture, a more long-term solution than a texturizing product is getting strategic highlights. "Some perfectly placed highlights can add dimension, texture, and body to your hair, as well as complement your natural bone structure," Leibovitz says.

Make a topknot a styling shortcut.
The topknot is so simple you can do it with a baby in one arm (seriously). Twist it up in the a.m., and take it down later in the day for beachy waves. For extra oomph, unravel your topknot and try this: Using your fingers, divide the hair into four large sections, then curl the hair in each section with a curling iron to create a little definition and bounce. Blast it with a flexible-hold hairspray, and you're good to go.

Use the hairdryer attachment.
If your nozzles are collecting dust somewhere in the depths of your bathroom cabinet, you're missing out on a truly good blowout. The slim attachment is essential if you want smooth, shiny hair (and who doesn't?) "When you place your nozzle on the blow dryer, you have instant control of the airflow," Leibovitz says. "It allows you to direct the heat along the hair cuticle, which helps to smooth it down and seal it, giving you that finished shine and bounce."

Lather, rinse, and repeat.
It's common knowledge by now that shampooing your hair infrequently can help it feel softer and look less frizzy. (Since you're not scrubbing out the scalp's natural oils, they can work their magic and hydrate dry strands.) But it's a good idea to shampoo at least twice a week. "It helps combat excess oil on your scalp from days of not washing your hair," Leibovitz says. And since you're probably combating a greasy scalp with dry shampoo, a double-cleanse will effectively remove any residue from that, too. Try Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Shampoo to help control frizz – the formula has active fruit protein and super fruit argan oil.
