[post_ads]We thought we’d never see the day, especially living in a world of lip injections and fillers, but getting lip reduction surgery is gaining more and more popularity. It hasn’t picked up that much momentum in the United States as of yet, so it mostly remains a hot commodity in Asian countries. The goal of this surgery is to, just as it implies, reduce the size of your lips and make them look thinner.
Dr. Melissa Doft is a dermatologist in New York City, and she told Allure.com that lip reduction surgery is done by “removing skin from the lips along the dry-wet border of the vermillion.” After the doctor performs the procedure, they use stitches to make a new lip line.
Unlike lip injections, it’s permanent (so you better be sure you want it forever), and you have to undergo a local anesthesia in order for the procedure to be performed. It takes anywhere from a few days to a week to heal from it, and you’ll likely only be able to eat soft or liquidy foods during that time (yes, that means no pizza).
The cost is another issue.
The surgery costs anywhere between $1,000 and $3,000, but if you go somewhere like New York City, it’ll cost more like $7,000. Compare to this to the lip fillers, which cost somewhere between $500 and $2,000 for a syringe.
