Undereye concealer is undereye concealer, right? Well, not exactly. The basic strategy of putting it right on the problem area works great—for dark circles. But for most of us, dark circles aren't the only issue. There is also sometimes puffiness to contend with, and that requires a whole different approach. So if your eyes puff up when you so much as look at a pickle, read on.
[post_ads]Stop blending concealer across undereye bags. It seems crazy to forgo concealer there, but if you do, you'll see a huge improvement right away. And here's why: "Anytime you brighten skin, it appears more prominent," says makeup artist Pati Dubroff. And since undereye concealers brighten skin by definition, "if you put concealer on top of puffiness, the bags stand out even more," she says.
Put concealer on the shadows below your bags, instead. If you look carefully at your under-eyes, you'll see a hollow, crease, or shadow right below the puff (it's probably a semicircle that starts near the inner corner of your eye). If you brighten that up, it won't seem to recede as much, and then your bags will stand out less because "the skin will look more uniform," says Dubroff. She recommends liquid-y concealers since they reflect the most light. Look for ones that come in click pens, like Flower Beauty Lighten Up Brightening Concealer, L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Serum Absolute Concealer, andSonia Kashuk Liquid Light Concealer. Swipe one across the shadow, and then tap your finger on top to blend.

Add some subtle shimmer.__Dust champagne powder shadow under your lower lashes (as if you were lining them) to brighten the skin right above the puffiness, too. "Whatever you do, don't line your lower lashes with black, navy, brown, or any other dark color," says makeup artist Joanna Schlip. "That defines bags and undoes all the work you just did."
