Over the past couple months, teeny tiny clues about what the mysterious Kat Von D glitter swatches teased in February might be. At the moment, all signs are pointing toward a whole line of colorful metallic liquid lipsticks. How did I come to this conclusion? Well, the metallic blue lipstick picture Kat Von D's vice president of product development Nancy McGuire posted a couple weeks after the swatches got me thinking that the swatches and the mystery liquid lipstick might be one in the same.
[post_ads]Then, Kat Von D, herself, announced in May that she is launching four new Everlasting Liquid Lipstick shades to benefit Farm Sanctuary. One will include what she called a "metallic foil midnight blue."The biggest giveaway came this week when a member of Kat Von D's Artistry Collective, Tara Buenrostro Instagrammed a metallic blue lipstick selfie. Her caption read, "What could possibly be on my lips!?"
McGuire followed this up with a post of her own. The video features swatches just like the ones we saw in February. In her caption, she asked, "What is on your lips @juscallmetara and does it come in more colors? 😉 #sneakpeek" That's basically our confirmation, people — Kat Von D is coming out with a whole rainbow's worth of metallic lipstick, and my lips have never been more ready.

We've been stumped by mysterious swatches twice this week now. First, Too Faced's Jerrod Blandino posted a picture of holographic smears on Instagram with no explanation. Now, the Kat Von D glitter swatches that appeared on Kat Von D Beauty's Instagram feed yesterday have our minds racing. A video showed the tattoo artist's arm covered in some of the most shimmery bright colors we've ever seen from the cruelty-free company. The caption didn't give us any helpful hints as to what it could be. All it said was "When you're lucky enough 🙏🏽 to sit in a product preview meeting with @thekatvond and @katvondbeauty VP of Product Development @nmcg30 🙀 🙀 🙀."
Personally, my first thought was they've 100 percent gotta be some kind of metallic liquid lipstick. Companies like Urban Decay, Huda Beauty, and Anastasia Beverly Hills have recently created their own version of the latest lip trend, as well as my personal favorite, the limited-edition ones at Lancôme. Also, the swatches have that wet look of liquid lipstick, right? Von D already teased a gold shade of the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick called Gold Skool with a big reveal video a couple months ago, so my guess can't be that far off.

Others suspect that the Kat Von D glitter swatches are possibly liquid eye shadow, which has been a popular formulation we've been seeing these days. Remember when the Urban Decay Moondust Palette went liquid for the holidays last year? I happen to be particularly loving the new Stila Magnificent Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadows at the moment, and these swatches kind of look like bright, neon versions of those. Either way, in the words of @darkangel5777 in the comments, "@katvondbeauty, i'm just going to xfer my direct deposit to yours! 😹" Same.
If you look closely at the Instas, you can see physical tubes of the mysterious product. They are probably just lab samples (something beauty editors actually see often before a product is ready to hit shelves), so don't let the packaging sway your guesses.

The picture also includes another Easter egg. On the paper below Von D's arm, it says there will be a new brow collection. Judging from the photo next to it, a KVD brow pomade might be launching soon. I guess I'm going to stay tuned. (And hope. And pray.)
