Thanks to the holiday's long, long
weekend, this Wednesday feels super like a Monday—along with all the
accompanying Monday struggle. Scrolling through our Insta feed and
gazing longingly at the pools we're no longer next to wasn't helping,
until we came across the looks that makeup artist Pat McGrath
dreamt up for Maison Margiela's Fall 2017 couture show, and suddenly
all was right again. It's that good. File it under "so insane, you have
to see to believe."
[post_ads]Couture is
generally the place for makeup and hair experimentation, no no-makeup
makeup or beachy waves will you see here. And that's exactly what
McGrath did—in a sharp twist from everything typical, she went for a
multimedia approach in getting the show's "alien glamazon from the
1930s" aesthetic (our words, not hers). She's known for being a
no-holds-barred, I'm going to do whatever and it's going to look fantastic-style artist, and yep, this checks out.
Cool, but not enough. So she foiled models' lips, with a combination of her line's new MatteTrance lipsticks,
structured red foil, and transparent paper. This isn't something we'd
reach for, just you know, on a casual Wednesday, but we truly can't stop
staring—it's so different, and we're into any reminder that makeup can
dive outside the norms and look spectacular. Plus, imagine how helpful
that foil would be for bikers. They're like built-in reflectors.

And models' hair? It was festival glittered, times 1000.

Created by hairstylist Eugene Souleiman, the effect was wet look via
Midas (our words again), meaning many layers of paint slicked on and
topped with glitter—so much so that the blue or gold totally obscured
the models' actual hair colors. And it's so, so convincing. If we didn't
know Bella Hadid was still a brunette under there, we'd be totally
convinced that she'd gone golden blond.

Honestly, metallic blond doesn't sound
like that far-fetched of a trend. It's low commitment—if you don't count
the many hours it'll take to wash out. On second thought, we'll just go
back to appreciating this one from a distance.
