3 Quick Tricks for Removing Hair Dye from Your Skin

Rachel Bowie, PureWow

Props to you for being totally brave: It’s no small job to dye your hair at home. But you did it and you nailed it…except for a streak or two on your forehead or (whoops) forearm. Here, some quick tricks to swiftly remove any accidental hair-color stains from your skin.

1. Mix rubbing alcohol and dish soap.

Soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol, and then add a drop of the soap, using your thumb to work the combo into a lather. Next, rub the cotton ball gently on any hair-dye stains on your skin and rinse when done.

2. Or try baking soda and dish soap.

Three tablespoons of baking soda and one tablespoon of liquid dish soap should do the trick. Mix together, then apply and gently scrub your skin using a washcloth. Rinse.

3. Apply vinegar as a last resort.

Ideally, you’ll apply using a loofah—or a muslin cloth—that can buff the color off your skin. Submerge the loofah in vinegar (yep, your skin might smell a bit), then gently scrub. By exfoliating, the color should lift right off. (But note: Don’t try this if you have sensitive skin.)
