the holidays are upon us—and that means glitter can be, too. If you

#1:
Start with a Fresh Face
You may be used to applying your face makeup
first, and following with eye makeup after, but not this time. You’ll
want to kick things off with a completely clean canvas. The reason?
Glittery eye makeup looks are oh-so-fun, but they’re also oh-so-prone to
fall out. That means all your concealing efforts could be marred by
fallen flecks of glitter. If you’d prefer not to have to hold a tissue
beneath your eyes the entire time you’re working on your eye makeup, go
ahead and wait to do your foundation and concealer. Problem solved! Simply cleanse with a facial cleanser, like the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types, and then you’re ready to get going.
#2:
Prep with (Eye) Primer
Primer
is important, but it can be even more so when you’re working with
glitter. All those loose pieces need something to stick to! There are
even primers specifically meant for helping glitter adhere to your
eyelids—a total saving grace in glitter application. Spread a small
amount of one over your skin, wherever you’ll be placing glitter.
#3:
Sweep on Eye Shadow
Rather than apply glitter directly to
totally bare (well, except for primer) skin, you’ll want to lay down a
base of eye shadow underneath. Pick a shade that’ll coordinate with your
gilded glitter, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in Brass Knuckles.
Sweep the eye shadow onto your lids, blending out at the crease for a
diffused effect. To play up the metallic finish of your eye shadow even
more, try using a damp eye shadow brush to apply.

#4:
Get Glitzy with Glitter
Now that you’ve laid the foundation, so
to speak, it’s time to break out your glitter. Using a brush or the pad
of your finger, gently press the loose glitter into your lids. It’s up
to you whether you’re satisfied with just a few flakes (unlikely) or
want to go bolder and keep layering on the glitz (likely).
#5:
Don’t Skip Highlighter
Your lids may have already achieved a high shine look, but that doesn’t mean you should skip highlighter. Around the holidays, you can never glow too bright. And if you can—challenge accepted. Grab the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops
and place a little bit of product (a little goes a long way) around the
inner corners of your eyes and below your brows, blending out with your
finger.

#6:
Be Crafty with Clean Up
For simple eye shadow fall out, a cotton pad soaked in micellar water
should be able to handle your clean up needs. As for the glitter that’s
ended up below your eyes—that can be a little trickier to remove.
Thankfully, we’ve found a helpful hack, and it doesn’t even require
purchasing any extra supplies. Locate your adhesive tape—we know you
have it on hand for wrapping presents—and that’s it! Use a piece of tape
(or a few) to get rid of any unwanted glitter, using the sticky side to
pick up every last sparkly speck.
#7:
Tightline with Eyeliner
Believe it or not, every holiday eye makeup look doesn’t necessitate cat eye skills. In fact, when you’re wearing glitter, you may want to forgo more complicated eyeliner.
Since glitter isn’t perfectly smooth, adding eyeliner overtop can pose a
particular challenge. For a subtler—and foolproof—take on eyeliner,
tightline. With the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner,
line along your upper waterline, being careful not to tug on your
eyelid. It won’t be obvious that you’re wearing eyeliner, but your
lashes will look mysteriously fuller. Yes, please!
#8:
Add Mascara
If there were ever a time to rock a
dramatic lash look, it would have to be the holiday season. First, brush
on a coat of mascara, like the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara. Then, reach for your falsies. Using lash glue and a pair of tweezers to help with placement, carefully apply the lashes.
