Among the most common skin concerns are an uneven complexion and dark
spots (not to be confused with beauty marks), whether caused by sun
damaged (wear sunscreen, people!) or from old acne scars. Regardless of
how it happens, the fact is, it’s currently residing on your skin
surface and chances are you want it out and away – stat! Yet sometimes,
slathering on products and hoping for the best just won’t cut it, which
is why we’re shedding light on brightening products and what you need to
know about them, especially to see results.
Be Patient
Most of us want immediate results but the (bittersweet) truth about
skincare is, to see visible (and long-term) results requires about
eight to 12 weeks (depending on the product’s potency too) of
constant usage and how well your skin reacts to the ingredients.

Ingredients matter
Ingredients that brighten and fade spots are actually bleaching the
top layer of the skin to lighten the pigmentation. While some of them
are safe to use, others can be too harsh for the skin and can result in
mild redness, dryness, and itching. So, be sure to choose one gentle
enough if your sensitive skin reacts easily.

Sun Damage VS Acne Scars
Some of us might have sun damage or even acne scars from puberty,
stress or forgetting sunscreen. To help lighten acne marks, hydroquinone
is often used in skincare (caution: it may be a tad harsh). Meanwhile,
vitamin C helps with sun damage by allowing quicker overall cell
turnover to reveal clearer skin.
