Quick Tips for Glowing Skin

Get Glowing Skin on Your Wedding Day

When it comes to summer wedding-day looks, there's no need for heavy foundation or a ton of hair spray—just a little makeup and a few styling products go a long way. We've rounded up our favorite beauty essentials, to give you a glowing complexion on your big day.

Prep Your Skin

Conceal any redness or discoloration with a lightweight base, such as Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. Use the oil-free formula, if needed, and work it into skin with your fingers, blending to your décolletage, says Louise Swinden Payne, a makeup artist in San Francisco.

Get a Blushing Complexion

With a big brush, buff a bronzer, like L'Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Professional The One Sweep Sculpting Blush in Flush, over forehead, under cheekbones, along your jawline, and down the bridge of your nose, then add a pop of blush on your cheeks.

Dab on Some Shadow

Dab matte cream shadow—we like Sephora Jumbo Liner 12hr Wear Waterproof in 24 Dark Brown Matte—onto lids. Blend it with a shadow brush from the lash line into the crease. Then, sweep the residue on the brush just beneath lower lashes.

Line Your Lids

Take a liquid liner, such as hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner in Ebony (available at Sephora) and, while looking into a mirror, raise your chin slightly so you glance down, which better exposes your lid. Draw straight along your lash line.

Moisturize Your Lips

To prep lips, swipe on a balm, then blot. Apply color with a lip brush, which will help grab the precise amount of lipstick you need (excess can slide around and get messy). Try Moisturizing Revlon Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Silhouette, Socialite, or Iconic.

Highlight Your Cheekbones

Rub highlighter along your cheekbones, brow bone, and nose. Those with fair skin should try a silvery-pink cream, like Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Translucent Illuminator (available at Target). For medium skin, a champagne color works, and for darker tones, a deep gold or bronze.

Get Sun-Kissed Skin

If you want a little color on your arms and legs, self-tanner is your friend. (Too much sun is a recipe for disaster.) “The first step is super-smooth skin,” says Carolina Gonzalez, a New York City makeup artist. Exfoliate with a scrub, like Clarisea Argan Rose Cream Buff, focusing on knees and elbows. When dry, apply a gradual glow-getter, such as Decléor Aroma Sun Expert Self-Tanning Milk Natural glow, which smells good and slowly darkens with each coat.

Create Soft Waves

Start with dry hair that’s been spritzed with hair spray (it will help hold the style); then, using two different-size irons, like Hot Tools 3/4" and 1 1/4" Gold Tapered Irons, curl your entire head, wrapping hair in a spiral around the wand. To keep your style glossy, work a pearl-size drop of Amika Obliphica Curl Defining Cream between your palms and run them through your hair, to break up waves, add shine, and de-frizz.
