If your makeup routine goes something like this: Apply concealer, mascara and the same brownish-taupe eye-shadow you’ve had for years, then it might be time to try something new. Not sure where to start? We’ve rounded up some of our favorite celeb looks to get inspired.
Try Monochromatic Makeup
Let’s start with something subtle. (You know, baby steps.) Make like Darby Stanchfield here and apply a rose gold shade on your lids, lips and cheeks for a soft all-over glow.
Wear Orange Blush
ICYMI: Orange blush is trending in Japan. To try it yourself, dab a touch of tangerine on your cheeks and lips like Taylor did at the Oscars party earlier this year.
Try a Colorful Smoky Eye
Brb. Bookmarking this emerald smoky eye for our next night out. Per Kelsey Deenihan, the mastermind behind this look, layer two shadows of a similar shade (one matte; one shimmer) to DIY.
Add Color to Your Waterline
Sparkling bikini top aside, what really caught our eye was Halsey’s amethyst under liner and extra fluffy lashes. Set the liner with a shimmery purple shadow to give it an extra pop of color.
Darken Your Lips
We had all but written off black lipstick until we saw Rooney Mara wearing it with a slicked-back bun and bold brows. Still unsure whether you can pull off the inky hue? (You totally can.) Test the waters with a deep red or burgundy first.
Brighten Up Your Cat-Eye
Or keep a nude lip and try rocking red on your eyes instead. Emmy Rossum nailed the look here by anchoring the shade with a base of jet-black liner underneath.
Try a Double-Flicked Wing
Blink and you might miss it. Look closely to see Camila Cabello’s stacked eyeliner along the outer corners.
Draw Geometric Lines
Or make a bigger (but still subtle) statement with some graphic dashes of liner on your upper lids.
Wear a Blend of Colors
How to get away with the halo trend in real life: Choose a complementary palette of pink, purple and bronze shadows and blend, blend, blend them over each other.
Add a Pop of Blue
Or take a cue from Chloe and just swipe on a soft wash of aquamarine shadow to instantly wake your face up. A flush of pink on the cheeks will complete the look.
