With the changing seasons it is important to revisit your daily
beauty routine and make adjustments where needed. After a cold, blustery
winter your hair might be in rough shape, so it's important to
prioritize hair health.
Very few people realize just how importance it is to detoxify hair
but what with all the product buildup, environmental factors, pollution
and whatnot, it’s a practice that should become a regular part of your
hair care routine. A solid detox regimen can set the clock back by years
and give you younger looking hair in days.
Here are four easy ways to detoxify your hair this spring.
1. Ditch The Damage
As
heartbreaking as it can be to cut your hair—especially when you’re
trying to grow it out—you need to get it trimmed regularly to keep it
fresh and healthy. And forget everything you read on Pinterest and DIY
forums: once a hair shaft splits, there’s nothing you can do to put it
back together naturally. The only effective remedy is to stay ahead of
the damage by regularly removing the unhealthy fragments.
Remember—the longer you wait, the more you will
have to cut off in the end; split hair keeps fraying until you snip off
the broken ends.
2. Banish Build-up
Product
build-up is an inescapable fact of life. From styling products to the
very shampoo you use to clean your hair—it all leaves a trace on your
scalp and over time this adds up to a layer of unhealthy gunk.
There’s
a 2-step process to getting rid of product build-up. Add some dry
shampoo to your roots, work it into your scalp for a few minutes and
then brush it out gently. Next, take it to the shower and use a deep
cleansing shampoo especially intended to remove build-up. Be gentle, but
make sure to use these cleansing agents right from the scalp to the
tips. Do this at least once a week.
You can also use a mix of baking soda and shampoo to remove build-up.
3. Of Masques And Moisture
Dust,
pollution, harsh sunlight, heat styling… all these things leave your
hair dry, brittle and prone to damage. The secret to healthy, happy hair
is to keep your scalp and strands well nourished and moisturized.
Use a moisturizing hair masque
once a week to combat all the dryness. Hot oil massages and treatments
are a great way to relax, while also giving your locks some much-needed
love. It is a good idea to limit the use of masques to once a week, but
you can use regular coconut oil as often as you like and even leaving it
in a few hours (or overnight) before washing does wonders for your
hair.
For more frequent care, use a conditioner every time you
wash your hair. Carry around a moisturizing spray or even good old water
in a spray bottle and give your hair a spritz every time it looks dull.
This is an especially great way to battle breakage and pollution when
you’re out and about.
4. Care And Clarify
Clarifying
your hair should be a central step in your detox routine. Doing so
helps to strip away any dirt, chemicals and build-up that may have
accumulated in your hair—leaving it fresh and squeaky-clean. The good
news about clarifying rinses is that you can make them on your own at
home.
Mix in two tablespoons of lime juice with a cup of water and
add a few drops of lavender essential oil (for a pleasant fragrance to
get rid of all the smoke and smells we pick up unknowingly). You could
also use a mixture of equal parts water and apple cider vinegar. All you
have to do is pour the rinse over your hair, massage it in, let it sit
for a while and then wash it out with plain, clean water.
Detoxifying
your hair is really easy and really effective way of fighting almost
all the common hair woes. And if your hair’s healthy and looking great,
start a detox routine to keep it that way. Here’s to fab hair this
season!
