The first thing that Dr. Hirsch emphasized was the use of sunscreen. "Prevention is absolutely critical and using sunscreen is absolutely a no-brainer. You can never start using sunscreen too early or late so be sure to incorporate that into your daily regime," she says. "The sun's UVA rays can be the number one enemy of skin. Make sure you use a sunscreen that is at least SPF 30 every day, whether it's sunny or cloudy outside."
But another extra tip that Dr. Hirsch gave was using a serum with your sunscreen. "For an extra dosage of skin protection, use a serum packed with antioxidants before applying your sunscreen. A great serum can help protect stem cells from oxidative stress. Imagine that the sunscreen is the lock on the door to your home, your skin. Why not add a dead bolt [the serum] on it to ensure you're protected?"
Like many of us already know, topical treatments can go only so far with helping to prevent wrinkles. Dr. Hirsch drives the point home: "Your lifestyle also contributes to signs of aging, so cut down on processed foods, excessive drinking and don't even think about smoking!"
