It’s truly amazing how far the “organic” world has come, especially over the last few years. It wasn’t that long ago that that word was almost foreign to most, as sad as that is to think. Our world, America especially, has been bombarded and overloaded with foods and products that contain a ton of harmful chemicals. I unfortunately had to become extremely sick and learn the hard way just how bad a lot of things were for us, but it makes me so happy to see the world embracing the beauty of being natural and hopefully saving so many people from the pain, confusion, heartbreak and heartache of illness that can be cured easier than we have thought prior.
When I got sick it forced me to detox my life completely and by completely, I do mean every single aspect of it; from foods, to cleaning supplies, to candles, to beauty products, to physical environment and anything else you could possibly think of! When I realized I needed to detox my life, there were many things around me that were so obvious I needed to change or switch to a different brand, but then I realized there were so many things I used daily that I never even thought twice about being harmful to my body, but really were.
It’s so easy to forget the little details of all that we use and incorporate everyday into our lives, that until we really sit, stop and think of it all, it’s oddly not a thought in our mind. When I detoxed my beauty routine, it was clear to me that I needed to buy new foundation, lipsticks, mascara, blush, etc, but I was forgetting about some other key components that were aiding to my daily makeup use that were just as harmful and that I needed to replace as well.
Here’s a list of things you may be forgetting:
Cotton Swabs - These have been aiding us in removing dirt, debris and wax buildup from our ears for years! These little things can also be every women’s savor when it comes to fixing eyeliner and mascara catastrophes during makeup application.
That may be a little dramatic, but you know we’ve all been there when the black eyeliner smudges too much and ends up way too low under our eye that you swear it’s almost to your cheekbone, or your mascara somehow ends up on the top of your eyelid instead of your actual lashes (something guys will never understand).
These cotton swabs are amazing for clearing up those mistakes, but they are not so perfect unless you remember to buy an organic version, it’s a tiny stick with not much to it, but it actually can be causing you lots of harm. Swisspers makes a great organic version that are soft and pesticide-free!

Cotton Balls

I love using cotton balls to apply my apple cider vinegar toner to my face and of course to help remove my organic nail polish easily but this was a product I had to really remember to switch out. Whole Food’s brand, 365 offers an organic version that won’t break the bank just for a bag of them.

Tissues

Tissues can be a lifesaver for so many things! From catching a sneeze, to gently removing or blending excess makeup, to blotting freshly applied lipstick... I keep these on hand with me at all times. Seventh Generation is a great brand that offers soft and absorbent tissues that feel good on your skin.

Makeup Brush Cleaner

Even when using organic makeup, it is still necessary to clean your makeup brushes often. I would never even think twice when I soaked my brushes in water or simply spray some concoction on the bristles to help remove old build-up makeup and dirt, but in reality it was super important. I was trying to “clean” my brushes, but in the end I was actually adding to the toxic substances that were already contaminating them. Now I either soak them in one of my favorite non-toxic brands, Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, and dry with a washcloth or you can buy products like Eminence Natural Brush Cleaner to spray on directly.
It’s always great to have simple reminders of everything we use daily that can be harmful to our bodies that we may not even think twice about.
