We've said it before, and we'll continue to wax poetic about it until it starts to get old: Reddit is the Internet's dumping grounds for strange, totally unexpected, and sometimes very awesome beauty Qs, trends, and dramatic before-and-after transformations.
[post_ads]This makes it a great
place to get lost for 35497834967 hours at a time. (What, just me?)
Sometimes, the findings make us laugh, while others are so incredibly
cringe-worthy.
Take, for example, this round of totally out-there beauty tips
Redditors have received over the years. Ahead, nine of the wildest,
wackiest, and straight-up craziest makeup tips and tricks — ever,
including one about Oreos. Trust us, they're out there — and you should
seriously avoid them.
1.
Using scissors to apply eyeliner.
"There's a video floating around of a woman using scissors to apply the outside part of her eyeliner wing." — Shirayuki-hime Oh, you mean this one?
2.
Separating your lashes with a needle.
"I
still remember coming across this when I was in middle school. I was
reading a book that my sister gave me and the main character mentioned
that her sister used a needle to separate her eyelashes. Young me was
convinced that no one would do something so dangerous. Now I wouldn't
doubt it after seeing so many people in my life do unsafe beauty
hacks/tricks. Worst part is they always use the 'But nothing bad has
happened to me!' excuse." — XxGardeniaxX
This
one gives us the heebie-jeebies just for the scare factor alone. One
small, sudden movement and you could technically gauge an eye out.
Yikes.
3.
Or a safety pin.
"I used
to do this too. I used to secure the safety pin to the handle of my
eyelash curler and I thought I was a makeup genius." — unpoquitomas
The same above sentiments apply here.

4.
Lighting your makeup on fire.
"The
lighting your eyeliner on fire thing, or running to through a flame
always scares. Seems like a great way to burn yourself and get an eye
infection. Kool Aid make up is more of a challenge thing than a tip is
just a recipe for disaster." — cutestslothevr
Beauty
vloggers have been getting lit with their makeup lately, but it's
nothing to freak over. According to dermatologists, the pyrotechnic technique
is actually relatively safe — just make sure when lighting your makeup
(eyeliner, foundation, lip pencil, and so on) that you blow out the
flame and let it cool before applying it your skin.
5.
Hoarding makeup for decades.
"'Makeup
doesn't expire'. I had to remove 20-year-old lipsticks from my aunt's
makeup collection, and 1-year-old mascara from my mum's." — Zoss33
Say it with us: NO. There are some big reasons to avoid expired makeup.
6.
DIY-ing your own mascara...using Oreos.
"You
were supposed to crush the oreos and mix it in with a cream (I saw
people use a small pot of Nivea) and then apply with a spoolie. Why
would ANYONE waste an oreo like that, absolutely sacrilegious." — Encajecubano
Please,
for the love of god and all things holy, do NOT put Oreos near or
around your eyes. The tasty vegan treats (yes, they are actually vegan!)
are made to be consumed — not worn as mascara.

7.
Sharing eye and lip products with friends.
"Blowing on your eyeshadow brush before applying to other people. Sharing lip products without consideration (cold sores). " — Generalfreud
Cold
sores, also known as the herpes labialis virus, are fairly contagious,
so go ahead and save yourself from risk by sticking to products in your
own stash.
8.
Using writing utensils as eyeliner.
"Using sharpies for eyeliner." — Zoss33
Let
keep pens, pencils, and Sharpies on paper — and not your lids — please.
Writing utensils are not eye-safe and should never be applied to or
around your eyes, just in case you needed yet another reminder.
9.
Or using any 'ol product on your eyes without checking the ingredients.
"Using
eye products on lips or vice versa without checking the ingredients...
eyeshadow may have ingredients that aren't safe (I'm looking at you
ultramarines) but people just think because it's makeup and it goes on
your face that it's okay to put it everywhere..." — Silly__Rabbit
This one is very
important. Before you swipe your fave lipstick onto your lids, read its
ingredients' label, a.k.a. do some research. Many products formulated
for lips are not made for your eyes — and vice versa — so it's important
to know what you're putting near your eyeballs (or mouth) isn't going
to cause a crazy allergic reaction.
