Demi Lovato took to Twitter on Monday to address the controversy surrounding her hairstyle choice in her new music video for "No Promises," which many feel was an example of cultural appropriation.
[post_ads]In the video, which came out last week, Lovato is shown wearing what appears to be locs. Fans (and not-so-big fans) took to Twitter and accused her of appropriation. However, others came to her defense and claimed the style she was wearing was not, in fact, locs but a twisted hairstyle.
On Monday afternoon, Lovato broke her silence on the matter in a series of tweets. Instead of issuing an apology, she was adamant about the fact that what she was wearing was not locs, and suggested that everyone should just "relax" about the situation.
"They were twists, not dreadlocks #relax" she wrote, the added "and BTW they looked f**king awesome."

She went on to ask "Who's excited for Fallon tonight?" in reference to her upcoming appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Finally, she teased that she knows what her first single will be off of her new album, then added "Ironically it's for my haters 😝."
