It's almost summer and you're craving that just-back-from-Capri glow. You surely aren't willing to compromise your health by baking in the sun, but you also don't want to go full-on spray tan, and the fact that all of your friends are getting married this summer means you have no vacation days left to even get to Capri. So what are your options, then, if you want to rid yourself of your postwinter pallor? According to makeup artist Stevie Huynh, a good solution is to customize your foundation with shade-adjusting drops.
[post_ads]Shade adjusters are a relatively new category on the beauty market, but we're seeing more and more of them as the year goes on. Huynh uses them on photo shoots to really pump up the bronze, making models look like they just got off the beach in Brazil rather than the subway in New York City. "I mix Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer into foundation and use a Beautyblender to mix and blend the formula. It adds a little bit of color instead of buying a whole new foundation," says Huynh. For a less expensive alternative, he likes Face Atelier Ultra Foundation Pro in Zero Plus. "It's not too red, yellow, or pale—it works really well for most skin tones. Just add a tiny drop to bump up the color."
Face Atelier also makes red, yellow, and white shade adjusters that can be used to cool down, warm up, or lighten your foundation, which makes sense since they're a brand geared more toward professional makeup artists. What's unusual is that more mass brands are jumping on the trend, including The Body Shop and Cover FX. And while we're surprised, we're certainly not upset. These nifty drops ensure your foundation will work for you all year long—and provide one more way to safely get your bronze on this summer.
