Back in 2014 — a time when purple hair was as in your face as today's unicorn makeup — I decided to jump on the plum-colored bandwagon and dye my own ends a vibrant violet shade. After a few glasses of wine and some pep talk, I enlisted a friend to help me dip-dye the ends of my mousy brown hue with a tub of Manic Panic. The electric amethyst color, which I loved, only lasted a few weeks and was, unfortunately, my first and last experience with temporary hair dye. (See it IRL here.) I may soon be changing my tune, however, because I think I've just discovered the #coolgirl hair dye of my dreams. World, meet Benjamin Mohapi's Moody Girls line, a collection of temporary hair dye in muted pastel tones.
[post_ads]Mohapi, who is the owner of Benjamin salons in Los Angeles, recently launched his own line of temporary hair dyes in a shade range favorable to millennial pink and mint green everything. The collection features five colors: Cry Baby, a pretty periwinkle; Lovey Dovey, a millennial pink hue; Mellow, a muted lemon shade; Peachy Keen, which, if you didn't already guess, is a soft peachy color; and finally, there's Peppy, a pistachio green dye. My fave? Sorry not sorry to sound so basic, but I'm jonesing for Lovey Dovey.
Each color is said to last anywhere from three to six washes and is fairly simple to administer on yourself at home. Here's how it works: After shampooing your hair and gently towel-drying it, rake in your preferred Moody Girls color — from roots to ends — making sure to thoroughly cover every bit of hair. From there, let the color soak in for about 15 minutes. (For a more muted color, leave in the product for about 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes for a sharper shade.) Once time is up, rinse out the product using cool water.

And just like that, you'll have the muted pastel hair of your dreams. The only downfall? Moody Girls recommends these shades for light-colored hair only, which means starting with a bleached base before color treatment is preferable for the best results.Dying (get it?) to try 'em out? Each shade in the Moody Girls line is $28 each at moodygirls.com.
