If you’ve ever gotten your hair dyed multiple colors at once — think confetti hair or mermaid hair — you know it’s a commitment to get in that salon chair (and by that, I mean it takes hours). This is largely because blending multiple colors at once, especially dramatically different colors, is a delicate process: The hues have to be blended perfectly for the color to look seamless, not streaky. Thanks to Los Angeles-based stylist and YouTuber Rebecca Taylor, though, that may soon change.
[post_ads]In an Instagram video posted to her account on Thursday, Taylor — who specializes in vivid rainbow hair makeovers — demonstrates how using a silicone makeup blender, such as a Silisponge, makes easy work of blending multiple rainbow-bright hues. Since the silicone sponge doesn’t actually absorb any of the pigment, it allows for seamless blending of bright shades, thus dramatically reducing the time it takes to undergo a hair transformation.

In the video, which already has more than 82,000 views, Taylor uses neon yellow, pink and green dyes from Kenra Professional to give her client a summer-ready, rainbow ‘do. As she explains in the caption, she diluted the bright shades with Brazilian Bond Builder, and used the silicone sponge — instead of the standard dye brush — to apply and seamlessly blend the bright colors. The result is flawless, and the process much simpler than the usual coloring process (in fact, you could probably use her blender hack to color your own hair at home).
