There's no denying it — trying to find the perfect foundation shade is a struggle for anyone. But tracking down a prestige brand that makes good options for dark skin tones is a whole other story. Although beauty companies like Kat Von D and Maybelline New York are making strides to create more inclusive foundation shade ranges, others still cater primarily to lighter skin tones. To find out what the best prestige brands for dark skin tones really are, a Redditor who goes by larinaluv turned to the Makeup Addition subreddit.
[post_ads]"Women with dark skin: What's your favorite premium makeup brand?" she asked. In the thread, she explains that one of her close friends is getting into makeup. "She was saying how hard it is for her to find a brand that carries an extensive line of shades for women with dark skin." Before they hit up Sephora together, larinaluv wanted some advice. Her fellow Redditors quickly chimed in with some prestige brands for dark skin tones suggestions that we'll definitely be keeping in mind as well.
Bobbi Brown
If you ask ATLbride, Bobbi Brown is "where it's at." She said it's one of the only beauty brands she's tried that "doesn't make [her] look ashy, yellow or grey." All are very important elements in picking the right shade. Make Up For Ever With the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation offering 40 different hues, it's no wonder a handful of Redditors lauded Makeup Up For Ever's extensive shade selection.

Lancôme
Although many people advised larinaluv's friend to try Lancôme with no explanation, Sameastheothers listed her favorite product. "Lancôme Teint Idole shade 500W is my go-to every day of the week," she said. M.A.C. "Their M.A.C. Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep is a great light coverage powder that leaves you nicely glowy and is a bit more forgiving with the shade match," keepinitneems recommended. Another user named 92girlie also offered up some helpful advice. "Pro tip: Ask them to match you with a sheer foundation FIRST and then ask them to match you with something more medium-full coverage," she wrote. "Sometimes their medium-full coverage stuff can end up oxidizing and looking yellower so you might have to go a shade up."

Cover FX
"I can't recommend Cover FX enough," whyarewe wrote. "I'm golden/olive-toned and have found that their line of golden shades fits me really well. They have three under tones — pink, neutral and golden, as well as G+ for an almost extra golden tone. The really nice thing is across the line the color match stays the same, so if I know my match for the liquid foundation then I know my match exactly in the cream and powder formulas, too. The range of shades is pretty wide, too, so I imagine your friend would be able to find something that matches well."

Estée LauderA Redditor named misskittencat considers the Double Wear Foundation as her HG, which is short for holy grail. In the world of Reddit, that's a big deal. "[Your friend] may like that if she has oily skin," misskittencat said. Several others agreed.
