The artists at Disney are masters in the makeup realm — creating Disney Princess doe eyes and scarily chiseled Wicked Queen cheekbones takes more than a magic wand. Until now, that is. “Makeup Lamps” are a seriously magical innovation for the makeup industry.
[post_ads]The magic is actually really cool tech — a face tracking projection system that maps your skin with digital pixels, to be precise. With every pore pixelated, the projection system can do just about anything to change up your visage from adding wicked witch wrinkles, to Cinderella sparkle without a single sweep of product.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the face projecting technology. Lady Gaga (who else?) famously tried the tech in her tribute to David Bowie at the 2016 Grammy’s — his most iconic looks flashing over her face throughout the course of the medley. But while really cool, Intel's version of the makeup mapping technology wasn’t quite perfect at seamlessly keeping up with Gaga’s performance.
As Fast Company reports, the Makeup Lamp tech from the Disney Research labs is a level up. The processing power is so speedy — just 10 milliseconds — it can keep up with facial movements in real time.

Of course, unless you’re in the entertainment industry or donning a costume in a Disney park, you probably won’t be ditching your favorite products in favor of the magic tech anytime soon. But Makeup Lamps do have some seriously cool potential — say, taking the ability to preview a specific makeup look using augmented reality off of your phone screen and straight into your bathroom mirror. That sounds like a real magic lamp to us.
