By Sarah Wexler, Allure
There's a breeze in the Allure offices every time someone blinks, thanks to our new eyelash extensions. Without coordinating with each other, three of us got the lashes done recently—and the reason is that extensions have gotten so much better than they used to be. The first versions I saw on friends a couple years ago were a little too dramatic for my taste—superlong, thick, and a bit fake-looking.

But now, there are different types available: pre-curled short, medium, or long synthetic lashes that can look natural ("athletic length") to drag queen ("glamour length"). So I decided to give the "athletic" ones a try. The process still takes forever: you lie on a massage table for up to two hours with your eyes closed while an aesthetician (in my case, Ada at Townhouse Spa) attaches roughly 100 individual lashes in between your natural ones. It was worth it.

When I opened my eyes, I was thrilled with what I saw. The lashes look natural enough to be believably mine, but cat's-eye enough that everyone in the office keeps asking me why I'm all dolled up, when I'm actually not wearing any makeup. Ada told me that, depending on how you care for them, the lashes can last up to two months—and until then, I'll be batting my eyelashes at everybody.
