When you hear the phrase "oil slick hair," your first thought is probably not hair dye — especially if you have locks that are on the thinner side. But this fall beauty trend has nothing to do with actual grease and everything to do with the beautiful color patterns that appear in oil.
Introducing "oil slick hair," dubbed by Aura Friedman
of Sally Hershberger Salon, a beautiful style that applies jewel tones
over darker hair, giving it an iridescent appearance. This is similar to
the opal hair color trend, but its shimmery effect comes from blending darker shades rather than ultra-pale ones.
Friedman told PopSugar
that she wanted to recreate the appearance of when gasoline is on the
ground and it rains: "I find that when you take a dark purple and a dark
green and layer them one on top of the other, you end up with this
iridescent feeling." She's right. The effect is a beautiful, mysterious
hue.
Bonus: If you have naturally dark locks,
you won't have to keep heading to the salon to get your roots touched
up the second you get regrowth. It's more subtle, so there's less
urgency for upkeep.
