Wearing purple — yes, purple! — shadow is super-flattering and helps your eyes stand out.

The surprising thing about colorful eyeshadow
is that it's often easier to pull off than a dark neutral like
charcoal, which can be intense. Purple, in particular, is lovely against
all skin tones and eye colors, though our model, Erica Reade — a
self-described low-maintenance gal — was skeptical. "I usually stick to
just nude shadow and mascara,"
she told me. I showed her that if you combine a plum shade with your
everyday nude and keep it close to the lash lines, it'll make your eyes
positively sparkle.
1
Create a Base
Work a gleamy champagne shadow ;(use gold if you have darker skin) on your brow bones — a little highlight here helps balance the purple — and then blend a taupe shade onto your lids.

Swipe on Color
Pick a plum shadow with a hint of sheen, which keeps the hue from looking heavy. A stick formula is easiest: Just smudge it back and forth a few times along your top lash lines.
Do the Bottom
Now take the shadow stick and glide it right under your lower lashes, rubbing your finger over the shade so it's a bit hazy. This defines your eyes the way liner would, but the effect is softer.

Play Up Lashes
Mascara helps anchor colored shadow; skim some on bottom lashes, too, holding the wand vertically. Finish your look with a sheer pink blush and lip gloss. My, what big, gorgeous eyes you have!
