Surprisingly, this Technicolor look was created on a whim. "I haven't done a look like this before!" Cheeseman tells Allure. This was done on a spark of an idea. It helps when your client is always down to do whatever and put their hair in your hands."
To make the rainbow prism hair happen, Cheeseman started off by bleaching her client's hair, which is styled in an undercut, to a platinum shade. Luckily, she had recently lightened her hair to get rainbow roots for Pride, so Cheeseman only had to focus on the roots. Once she had a lightened canvas to work off of, Cheeseman parted the top of her client's hair in a horseshoe shape and colored that section silver. This acts as what she calls a "veil" over the rainbow. Then, Cheeseman painted neon rainbow hues horizontally on the bottom section. The whole process took about three hours, Cheeseman says. "If she wasn't already pre-lightened on her ends, it would have taken 3-plus hours," she adds.
Once Cheeseman was done coloring her client's hair, she noticed just how different the dye job looks with each style. Here are just a couple ones she tried out.
