4 Gorgeous Hairstyles for Long Hair

4 Gorgeous Hairstyles for Long Hair

From: L'Oréal Paris

Fall is finally here. As much as we love summer, there’s no denying that we were ready for a little change—especially when it comes to styling our hair. Whereas you might have preferred to air dry your hair and rock beach waves during the warmer weather season, there’s no better time to try your hand at a few intricate styles than the cooler months of autumn. And that’s especially the case if you have long hair. Below, find tutorials for four gorgeous long hairstyles that are perfect for fall.

#1: Double Twist Fishtail

If you love letting your long hair flow in all its glory but still want to keep it somewhat contained, try this half-up double-fishtail hairstyle on for size. The best part is, it’s super-simple to create!

What you’ll need:

  • Comb
  • Bobby pins
  • Mini clear elastics

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Comb your hair. Take the time to detangle your tresses and move on to the next step once your comb glides easily through your hair.

Step 2: Create your first twist. Grab a small section of hair from each side of your head and twist it back towards your crown. Unlike some other twisted hairstyles, you won’t incorporate new hair as you twist along, just twist the section you have from roots to ends. Pin each section in place until you’ve completed your second round of twists, at which point you can secure all four twists at the back of your head with a clear mini elastic.

Step 3: Repeat Step 2. This is a double twist fishtail, after all.

Step 4: Fishtail the ends of your twists. Using only the ends from your two sets of twists, fishtail all the way to the ends and secure it with a clear mini elastic.

Step 5: Fluff up your braid and twists. To make your pretty hairstyle look especially whimsical, gently tug at your fishtail braid to add a little extra volume in each stitch. Then move on to your twists and gently tug those too. Voila!

#2: Boho Layered Braid

Who doesn’t love a good braid? We’re especially fond of this one since it incorporates multiple types of braids.

What you’ll need:

  • L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray
  • L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold
  • Comb
  • Bobby pins
  • Mini clear elastics

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Wash and detangle your hair. After you hop out of the shower, use a widetooth comb to gently detangle your hair.

Step 2: Add waves to your hair. While your hair is still damp, flip your head over and spritz every last strand with wave spray. After you’ve sprayed your hair, flip your head back over and scrunch it a few times to help create waves. Once your hair is fully dry, run your fingers through it gently to help loosen up your waves.

Step 3: Create a small twist.Grab a small section of hair on one side of your hair an inch or two down from your part. Twist this section of hair back towards the crown of your head and pin it in place on the opposite side of your crown as if you’re wrapping it around your head without going fully around to the other side. Before pinning your twist in place, hold it with one hand and use your other hand to gently fluff it up for a more undone feel.

Step 4: Repeat Step 3 on the other side of your head. Then repeat the back and forth process once more so that you have four twists all together.

Step 5: Divide your remaining hair into three sections. To do this, split your remaining hair into two equal sections, a top and a bottom. Then split the bottom section into two equal side-by-side sections so that you have three sections altogether.

Step 6: Braid both bottom sections individually. Keep it simple with a traditional three strand braid for each. Secure each braid with a clear mini elastic before gently tugging from the ends up to create a more voluminous set of braids.

Step 7: Fishtail the top section of hair. Split the remaining top section into two sections to create a fishtail braid. Once you reach the ends of your fishtail braid, secure it with a clear elastic before gently tugging at each weave to create a fuller-looking head of hair.

Step 8: Pin the fishtail braid on top of both traditional braids. Now that all of your braids are woven, it’s time to combine them into one gorgeous boho look. All you have to do is pull the bottom traditional braids together at the ends with a little bit of space between the lengths, before pinning the top fishtail braid in the middle of the two. Once everything looks layered just right, pop a few bobby pins in through the underside of the braids so that they’re hidden. Spray with hairspray and you’re ready to show off your strands!

#3: Mix and Match Ponytail Braid

If you’re one of those girls who constantly has a hair tie on her wrist waiting to inevitably pull up your hair, why not start with a more streamlined look from the beginning of the day? Instead of pulling your hair into a sloppy high pony, give this mix and match braid a try.

What you’ll need:

  • Rat tail comb
  • Bobby pins
  • Clear mini elastic
  • L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Separate your hair into four separate sections. Using a rat tail comb, divide your hair into four sections. Leave the front two sections loose while combing the back two sections together into a high ponytail.

Step 2: Dutch braid the two front sections of hair. Split each front section of hair into three sections and begin weaving Dutch braids (a.k.a. inverted braids) at your hairline. Continue adding hair into your Dutch braids until you reach the crown of your head, at which point you should continue braiding one section all the way to the ends on one side, while combining the unbraided ends of the other side with the high ponytail to give your pony more volume.

Step 3: Wrap the braided section around the base of your pony. Before wrapping your ponytail, tighten it to perk up the volume a bit. Then, take the fully braided side and wrap it around the hair tie to conceal it. Use a bobby pin on the underside of the ponytail to tuck the ends in place.

Step 4: Begin braiding your ponytail. You can start off with whatever braiding technique you’d like: fishtail, traditional, or rope. Whichever you choose, braid an inch or two down your pony before moving to the next step.

Step 5: Switch to a new braiding technique. Time to switch things up with a new weave. Take your pick, ladies.

Step 6: Continue switching every inch or so to the ends. Once you reach the ends, tie your ponytail off with a clear elastic. Wrap a small strand of hair around the elastic to conceal it and tuck the ends into the underside of the hair tie. Once your pony is fully secured, fluff it up a bit starting at the ends and working towards the base.

Step 7: Finish with hairspray. A spritz or two of hairspray can help keep your hairstyle high and tight for whatever the day has in store.

#4: Sleek and Textured Half-Up Top Knot

You’ve seen your favorite celebs rocking this dual textured look, and now it’s your turn. With the right technique, you’ll look equally as A-List.

What you’ll need:

Fine tooth comb

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Apply styling products to wet hair. After you hop out of the shower and detangle your hair, apply a dollop of styling cream from your hairline back to your crown and spritz wave spray from your crown down to your ends. This application technique can help ensure that you create the perfect dual textured look.

Step 2: Let your hair air dry. Run your comb from your hairline to your crown to aid in smoothing and scrunch your ends to help with textured wave production.

Step 3: Create your half-up top knot. Using your fine tooth comb, divide the top section of your hair just behind your ears up to your crown. Smooth your hair as much as possible from your hairline all the way back to your crown and secure the section with a clear elastic. Once your hair is secured, twist the ends and loop them into a top knot. When securing your knot, allow a couple ends to peek out to embrace the season’s beloved octopus bun trend.

Step 4: Tease the rest of your hair. Using your fine tooth comb, gently tease your waves for a more textured look from your crown down to your ends.

Step 5: Finish with hairspray. To combat any humidity, wind, or other hair naysayer, spritz your fall hairstyle with a weater control hairspray.
