'The Exact Products I Use To Make My Skin Look This Flawlessly Glowing'

"If there’s one absolute must-have highlighting product in my collection, it’s the very first one I bought."

I’m typically a cautious person. I triple check to make sure I have my keys before leaving the house, I wait at least 20 minutes before sipping any hot beverage, and I always arrive to the airport super-early. In my normal day-to-day, I never want to overdo it. But when it comes to highlighters, something short-circuits in my brain and I need them all on my face, simultaneously. Maybe it’s the illusion of radiant, well-rested skin even when I’m feeling the exact opposite, or maybe I want to feel like a luminous otherworldly alien goddess every once in awhile. Most days, it’s a little bit of both.

I've been passionate about highlighters since I bought my first Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Moonstone back in 2014. The dewiness it gave my normally-dry skin made me feel refreshed and pretty even without any other makeup—a really nice confidence boost on any day. I guess you could say I'm an "early-adopter" of the glowy skin movement, because I haven't looked back.

So when my editor saw my highlighter selfies on Twitter and asked how I got my glow, I decided to share my secrets with WomensHealthMag.com. Here's how I do it, step-by-step:

START WITH A DEWY FOUNDATION

I’ve got dry to normal skin, so as dewiness came into the spotlight in the beauty world, I wasn’t afraid to get “excessive” with my experimentation. I like to start with a dewy base—my pick is the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation which is fresh (not glittery) and offers light to medium coverage. I use concealer for any spots left peeking through afterwards.

TARGET THE HIGH POINTS OF YOUR FACE

If there’s one absolute must-have highlighting product in my collection, it’s the very first one I bought—that Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid. Please, go pick up a sample and change your life with this magical liquid. This will give you an extra dose of glow at all the high points of your face when applied over your already-dewy foundation. I use one small pump and apply with fingers to the cheekbones, browbone, tip of the nose, cupid’s bow, and chin. If you’re feeling really wild, use any excess product underneath your cheekbones where you would contour.

LAYER IT UP

Here’s where it gets really fun: I like to layer over all those high points with a powder highlight to extend the glow. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighte has its own cult following, and it's a tried-and-true place to start if you’re entering the high-end highlighter world for the first time. They’ve even got mini powders if you’re not committed to the glow (yet).
Once you've mastered the highlight, here's how to contour:

[post_ads]Other powders that are great: Kat Von D’s Metal Crush Eyeshadow in “Thunderstruck” is a gorgeous pearly-white gold with a subtle pink shift. Hourglass Cosmetics is typically known for a more soft, natural highlight, but after testing their Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette  from their Holiday 2017 collection, it’s totally worth the splurge for the shiny, wet-look finish. And if you can’t get enough of the drama—especially my ladies with deeper skin tones—there is nothing quite like the highly-pigmented, glittery yellow gold you’ll get from Fenty Beauty’s “Trophy Wife”.

PULL IT ALL TOGETHER

After applying my highlight, I finish my look by curling my eyelashes and applying mascara, then adding little bit of blush from Hourglass. Sometimes I'll add a sheer bronze eyeshadow or a black winged eyeliner if I'm feeling more dramatic. I also love doing specific highlighter combinations depending on the occasion. For the holidays, I enjoy pairing a bright pearly white/gold highlight with dark red lips and eyeliner. (We also love this creamy blush from the Women's Health Boutique!)

Skin care is always key, but sometimes you still feel *bleh* after last night’s face mask. Highlighter is here for you when you need to cheat a little bit, especially in those drier winter months. When it comes down to it, it’s all about that moment where the light catches your cheekbone in the mirror and you’re like, “YES GIRL GET IT." Go forth and glow.
