Why Do Feet Smell?

According to Dr. Erika M. Schwartz, DPM, FACFAS, of the American Podiatric Medical Association, “The feet have about half a million sweat glands, and this can lead to a whole lot of sweat. When you wear socks and shoes, the sweat gets trapped inside. Bacteria and fungus can thrive in this type of warm, moist environment, and can produce odor.” So, we can say that sweating is the main reason behind the smell. Medically this incident is called eccrine bromhidrosis. Sweat creates a wet moist environment which is just perfect for bacteria to dwell in and dead skin is the media where they can feed on. So, your feet become their home sweet home. These bacteria then create the awful smell. Not washing your feet and footwear makes thing permanent and extreme. You sweat when you spend your whole day in socks and shoes.

You sweat when you work, stay outside or where you stay has humidity. Sweating is also caused because of different issues regarding health and environment. And you just cannot stop sweating. This is just practically impossible. So, the only way left is to keep your feet healthy so they do not stink.

Who Suffers From It?

This problem can happen to anyone. And it is very normal as………… you know, sweating! But the smell and the time vary. There are people who will spend the whole day in humidity and will still stay fresh. But, then again there are poor fellows who will begin to smell as soon as they get into the shoes.People who sweat excessively are prone to stink and not only from feet but from other where (you know how it is). Those who have conditions like diabetes, heart disease, stink. Who are under a lot of pressure, they are subject to high perspiration resulting into becoming a skunk. Women who are pregnant also get stinky-feet syndrome.

Other than that, teens and the elderly suffer from it too. Folks who do not have a healthy hygiene and do not wash feet or do not keep their foot gears clean will smell like hell and it will reach heavens! Corporate workers, salesmen and thus who spend a big time their feet enclosed gets smell as their mate. The habitats of humidity also smell. And I’m sure you can keep the list going on. You have supposedly met your fair share of people with stinky feet.

And the biggest sufferers are – those who have to tolerate it without making faces! Poor souls!

(Imagine you are the boss, in a meeting and your feet stink. You can think the rest.)

2
Sliding In The Right Socks

Another companion is the sock. We can find two types of people among who wear socks. Number one, those who are obliged to be socks like with uniform or service holders. And two, those who cannot go without socks. They love socks. So, for both of the types and those who wear them occasionally, it is important to choose the right one and following the right instructions.

For example, nylon trap moisture as for cotton, they let your feet breathe. So, if you live in a place with humidity or spend most of the day in socks, it is wise to go with cotton. Also, those who sweat like pig (Ewww, but what can they do?!) always bring another pair of socks with you so that you can change into them. It will help you to keep your feet dry and prevent moisture and bacteria from forming.
