Instead of sitting in a salon chair for over two hours this summer getting your highlights touched up, Canadian hairstylist Theresa Cook just came up with a quick, colorful alternative that will get you back to the beach in no time. She recently dyed one of her clients' hair a gorgeous minty green hue. Layering it over grown-out highlights created a dimensional look that will remind you of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

The delicious dye job is a low-maintenance way to dip your toes into green hair, too. (No chlorinated pool needed.) "I wanted to create a look that didn't have a lot of commitment and that wouldn’t last too long," Cook tells Allure. The pastel tone allowed her to do just that.
The whole coloring process didn't take long, either. In under two hours, Cook's client achieved mint chip hair. Because her hair was already pre-lightened with highlights, Cook didn't have to spend extra time bleaching it. Instead, she dove straight into brushing on a special green dye, which was a combo of Pulp Riot's light green hue called Seaglass with a hint of a deep teal one called Aquatic. Cook specifically picked these dyes because they won't fade into an unpleasant, murky shade of green. "Many people don’t want green tones because they are afraid of how they will fade," Cook says. "I’m always ready to show clients that green is nothing to be afraid of." After letting the mint hair color process for 25 minutes, Cook rinsed it out with cold water.

Ready to try out the ice cream-inspired hair color this summer? Let your stylist know you want a pastel mint hue. From there, they'll custom mix a hair color based on the yellow tones of your hair, Cook says.
