It seems like spring was only here for a beautiful second before the heat of summer hit. But we aren’t complaining!

Unfortunately, our hair isn’t quite so happy. After the long, drying winter, we’re about to be blasted with humidity (and sweat). This is going to cause a whole host of issues for our locks, and we’ll need an expert to help! Luckily, we talked to Jon Reyman, Spoke & Weal Salon Founder, and he gave us his best advice to untangle any hairy situations…

Help! My hair won’t hold a curl! What should I do?
It is all in the prep work. To help hold your style or curl, you need to build the foundation by using the appropriate products even before the blow-dry. Apply a light hold gel, styling foam, or light texture spray to create grip. Spray and brush through each section of hair with a light hold aerosol hairspray before curling. Let each curl cool before shaking out your waves and finish with a light dry hairspray or texture spray. Stay away from oils on your finished look to keep it lasting.[post_ads_2]
I feel like my scalp is always oily…
Take a look at the products you are using. Make sure they are not oil based. Using a more cleaning shampoo removes more excess oil from the scalp. When using conditioner, only apply to the mid shaft and ends of the hair to avoid extra oil and weight from the product.I want to grow my hair as long as I can, but still keep it healthy. How can I do this?
[post_ads]If you want to grow your hair, still get a clean up or a dusting on your hair cut any time between 8-15 weeks to keep it healthy and avoid split ends. By keeping this up, you won’t feel like you have to cut multiple inches off once you make it in to see your stylist. To keep it healthy during growing out, deep conditioning treatments are a must, avoid over using heat and always use a heat protecting product, be aware of over stretching your hair when its wet which can cause snapping and breakage, use a soft boar/ nylon bristle brush to remove tangles and don’t pull hair up tight when it is wet.Ugh my hair has been damaged from dying and want to get it back up to snuff. Help!
Talk to your colorist about less damaging options for your color process and what is realistic with your desired look and how to achieve that without compromising the integrity of your hair. Pairing a deep condoning treatment with any salon service is always a good idea. They are typically a more concentrated and higher professional grade in your salon which will help the speed up process of repairing the damage. Always use a heat protectant lotion, spray, or leave in repairing treatment before styling your hair.[post_ads_2]
I have curly hair and wants to keep it smooth and silky. What should I do?
When styling curly hair product is key. If you have naturally coarse hair you can use a heavy hydrating shampoo and conditioner, hair oil, or leave in conditioner to help soften. For more fine hair a smoothing shampoo and conditioner, a light smoothing lotion, and dry conditioner would be best to soften texture. Even if you want your curl to feel smooth, add a light hold product in to help contain any unwanted frizz. The hold product paired with the oil will keep your hair shaft smooth from frizz, maintain your style, and if it is light to medium hold product your hair will remain smooth and silky.See more at: Lux & Concord
