Curly Hair Idea: Au Naturel

With her flowing, golden curls, it's no wonder AnnaLynne McCord scored a role as a California babe on 90210. Although she likes a blowout every now and then (hey, who doesn't?), we love it when Anna rocks her natural, easy, breezy hair texture.

Kerry Washington

Trim your bangs and pair them with soft curls to create a simple and sophisticated style.

Nicole Richie

To achieve the look of soft finger waves, first blow-dry your hair smooth with a deep side part. Then use a medium-barrel curling iron on small sections, working around the head. Gently brush out the curls and work in a little hair cream to soften the look and add moisture. "It's the finishing touches and details that make this look stand out," says Nick Arrojo, owner of ARROJO studio in New York City.

Nicole Kidman

First, blow-dry your hair smooth with a deep side part, before using a medium-barrel curling iron on small sections, working around the head. Don't brush out the curls when you're done! Instead, mist your hair with holding spray so the curls don't wilt over time, says Arrojo.

Michelle Pfeiffer

First, run curl cream and styling cream mixed together through your hair and blow-dry with a diffuser, gently cupping the hair and scrunching upward while it dries. Once dry, use a small-barrel curling iron, or try twisting your flat iron to give extra definition to pieces that aren't as wavy as others. Finish with a mist of holding spray. "This look works best on someone who already has some wave and texture in her hair," says Arrojo.

Rebecca Gayheart

Apply gel mousse to wet hair for body, and then blow-dry your hair until it's 80% dry. Part your hair into five thick sections, and use a large boar bristle brush to smooth out, starting at the nape of the neck, while you finish drying. After your entire head is dry, re-section your hair and use a 2-in curling iron on each section, starting at the nape of the neck, to create soft waves. "When you finish, run your fingers through the curls to create a natural look and finish with a curly-hair finishing spray like Curlisto Glow & Shine," recommends Christo, owner of Christo Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Blow-dry your hair completely. Then, part it into five sections and roll into large Velcro rollers. Once finished, spray your entire head with shaping spray. Heat the rollers with a blow-dryer for five minutes, and then let them cool down for another five minutes. Release the rollers and run your fingers through the curls to open them up. Secure the back into a soft chignon, and leave the front pieces to frame the face. Finish with Curlisto Glow & Shine, recommends Christo

Shakira

"This loose-wave look is best achieved with a 1.5-in. barrel curling iron," says Jordan Sparkes, a stylist at Garren New York. "Shakira has thicker hair, which doesn't require much product, but a light tonic will keep humidity at bay and give a greater hold." Spray product on wet hair and dry completely. For naturally curly hair like Shakira's, use a diffuser to dry your hair. Avoid touching the curls before your hair is done drying. Once your hair is completely dry, create waves by taking sections and wrapping them around the iron with your fingers. Don't clamp your hair into the iron; this will create softer, face-framing waves.

Marcia Cross

Spray product on wet hair and blow-dry completely using a diffuser. Avoid touching the curls before your hair is totally dry. Once dry, create waves by taking sections and wrapping them around a 1.5-in. barrel curling iron with your fingers. Avoid clamping your hair in the iron so your waves stay soft and loose, says Sparkes.

Taylor Swift

This style has a lot of texture and curls, but Taylor's hair is fine, so she'd need more product, like Rene Furterer Protective Sun Moisturizing Mousse. After applying product on wet hair, dry completely. Then, to create these tighter, textured curls, use a smaller curling iron with a ¾- to 1-in. barrel. Clamp sections of the hair in the iron and twist. If your hair is already curly, use a diffuser to allow the curls to form more naturally, and use the small curling iron to smooth and polish the hair around the face. "Remember, it's very hard to mess up curly hair, so don't be afraid to play with it. A few small curls and a few big ones just add to the charm," says Sparkes.

Jennifer Lopez

First, use a straightening gel on wet hair, and then blow-dry 80%. Part your hair into five sections, and use a medium round brush to smooth while looping sections, securing with bobby pins before spraying with holding mist. When you finish the last section, allow the hair to set before releasing and spraying with Glow & Shine, says Christo.

Debra Messing

To achieve Debra's look, blow-dry your hair smooth and straight with a round boar bristle brush by taking 1- to 2-in. sections of hair and blowing out from root to tip. Then, part it in the middle. Spray your head very lightly with aerosol hair spray, and with a 1-in. curling iron, curl the sections around the back of the head about an inch up from the ends, toward the head as if putting in a roller. Let the curls alternate going left and right. Next, take small 1-in. sections around the face, and instead of curling the hair like a roller as you did in the back, wrap the hair around the barrel, in a spiral away from the face. Leave the ends of the sections out of the curling iron, and don't curl all the way to the root. "This keeps it smooth on top and loose on the bottom with modern straight ends," according to New York City–based celebrity stylist Gad Cohen. With your fingers, rub your scalp to create more volume and to loosen up the spiral pieces, but don't run your fingers through your hair—you'll lose the separation between the spirals.

Beyoncé

To achieve Beyoncé's look, take 1- to 2-in. sections of hair with a round brush, and blow straight out from root to tip, not curling under or out. Then, part it in the middle. Next, using a 1-in. barrel curling iron, take the small pieces around your face and curl away from your face in a spiral motion. Pin each curl until you're finished. For the back, use a 2-in. barrel (or the same 1-in. barrel, but curl much looser), starting at the nape of the neck. Spiral-curl away from the face very loosely, so your hair keeps its length. Go half-way up, hold for a few seconds and then let it out. If you have pin-straight hair, put each piece in a stand-up pin curl as you finish the rest of your hair. When you're all done with curling, toss your head upside down and shake it gently, breaking up the curls very lightly with your fingers—but don't run your fingers through, insists Cohen. Finally, pull each section apart like you're curling a ribbon, and voila!

Sarah Jessica Parker

First, blow out your hair smooth and straight with a round boar bristle brush, taking 1- to 2-in. sections at a time and blowing from root to tip. Be sure to blow straight out, not curling your hair in or out. Then, part your hair in the middle. Next, spray your head very lightly with aerosol hair spray. Take a 1-in. barrel curling iron and, starting from the back, take inch-wide sections and curl up, as if putting them in a roller. Hold a few seconds, then let go, alternating the curls' direction between left and right. Take 1-in. sections of hair around your face, but instead of curling your hair like a roller, wrap your hair around the barrel in a spiral, away from your face. And don't go all the way to the root; leave a few inches uncurled. "This keeps it smooth on top and loose on the bottom, so you don't have Shirley Temple curls," says Cohen. Finally, rub your scalp with your fingers for more volume and to loosen up the pieces. Avoid running your fingers through your hair because you'll lose separation between the spirals.
