A Fast Way to Refresh Frizzy Summer Curls

See the magic happen!

Starring drugstore finds!

We tasked beauty editor Chloe Metzger with creating a spring look using only Walgreens products, and she happily accepted the challenge. See the magic happen!

[post_ads]If you have curly hair, you know how insanely frustrating the summer can be, thanks to the hot and humid air that turns even the smoothest of ringlets into a frizzy, stringy mess. But thankfully, there's a way to refresh second-day curls (or first-day curls, when your hair is being extra temperamental), and it only takes a few products. Shop somewhere that has a ton of options so you can find exactly what's right for your hair texture. Walgreens has a massive selection, and their beauty consultants are always on-hand to answer your burning haircare questions.

STEP 1: Wet ‘em down

Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Hold & Shine Daily Moisture Mist

“Frizzy, stringy, pulled-out curls are like a dried-out rubber band, which means they need a ton of moisture to help them spring up again. Instead of using water, which doesn’t really replenish any moisture, spritz your hair all over with a coconut oil-infused hair mist, like this one, until your curls are just barely damp.”

STEP 2: Smooth the frizz

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Touch Up Cream

“Your damp curls need some definition and hold, or they’ll dry in a stringy mess. Rub a dime-size drop of smoothing cream between your hands, then lightly rake and smooth it through your curls, gently twisting sections to define them. Avoid your roots, keeping the cream only on the lower half of your hair.”

STEP 3: Get some volume

Dove Dry Shampoo Coconut

“Dry shampoo is key for flat, messy curls: It not only soaks up second-day oil, but it also adds a ton of volume at the root, which gives curls a freshly washed feel. After your hair dries, lift up sections of hair and spritz your scalp with dry shampoo. Wait a few minutes, then flip your head over and very lightly massage your roots.”

STEP 4: Make it last

TRESemme Compressed Micro-Mist Hair Spray Level 3

“I’m usually not a fan of using hairspray on curls, but this micro-mist spray isn’t sticky, crunchy, or drying—it basically just envelops your hair in a super-lightweight, humidity-resistant hug. Flip your head over and spray it all around for an extra-voluminous look, or just lightly mist the outside of your hair to keep frizzies at bay.”

STEP 5: Mess It Up

“The most natural-looking curls are the best curls, so toss them around, switch up your part, and try not to get bogged down when they inevitably frizz again. Just embrace it, throw on a red lip, and go forth into the sweaty summer heat.”
