How to Repair Summer-Related Skin and Hair Damage Ahead of Your Wedding

Spent the summer getting that perfect bridal glow? Then this is required reading.

We know the dangers associated with soaking in the sun's damaging rays, yet we often find ourselves throwing caution to the wind during the carefree summer months. But as a fall or winter bride, what should you do if you realize that your gorgeous locks and beautiful complexion are looking a little wear after three months soaking up the sun? While some sun damage can be permanent, there are things you can do to turn back the clock, especially ahead of your wedding. Here, some of the best things you can do to help repair post-summer sun damage in time for your walk down the aisle.

Exfoliate

This seems like a no-brainer, but it is an important step to repairing your skin. After months of sun, salt, and/or chlorine, your skin will be left with a tough, dry protective layer that needs to be sloughed off. Plus, moisturizers and treatments won't be able to penetrate and work their magic until the skin's dead layer has been removed. As for exfoliating the face, micro-fine physical scrubs that won't irritate sunburned or irritated skin are the best choice. Start by using a physical scrub for a week or two to get the bulk of the dead skin removed, then switch over to a chemical exfoliation, like the M61 Power Glow Peel Pads.

Mask

Skin looks and feels dull and rough when it's dehydrated, so applying a reparative mask, especially one with nourishing ingredients like rose oil or aloe, can work wonders for your complexion. Once your skin has enough hydration, all products applied to it—including makeup!—will work more effectively. A hair mask, like Moroccan Oil Restorative Mask, works in a similar way, helping to restore your locks from the inside out.

Vitamin C

After over-doing it in the vitamin D department, a little bit of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, can go a long way. In serum form, vitamin C can brighten your skin, reduce the visibility of dark marks, reduce dryness, and soften fine lines. For your hair, adding vitamin C can help strengthen your locks and increase suppleness.
