Ultimate hacks for glowing wedding day skin

By Clemmie Millbank
Perfect WEDDING

Your wedding day is without a doubt the day when you want to be at your most beautiful, and to ensure gorgeous glowing skin, it’s best to invest your time in a thorough skincare routine in the months and weeks leading up to the big day. It’s really worth thinking about how your skin behaves and how you want it to look on the day, so you can decide on the best way to prepare it for those all-important photographs!

Hydration
It sounds simple, but hydration really is key – inside and out. If you want a gorgeous, clear complexion like my client Millie Mackintosh, you really need to up your water intake and select some super-hydrating products to use on your face and body. I recommend adding a drop of chlorophyll into your water to really boost your hydration levels. I also love using quenching facial spritzes to instantly add some moisture into the skin and keep it looking plump and fresh. Try and drink eight glasses of water every day in the months leading up to your wedding and you’ll notice the difference – clearer skin, brighter eyes and better sleep, what more could you want?

HOW TO MAKE YOUR MAKE-UP LAST ALL DAY

Facial oils
Facial oils are your friend! I cannot recommend them enough and use them religiously. Massage your face every night with a beautiful facial oil – not only will it relax you and get you ready for sleep (essential with those pre-wedding jitters!) but the oil will also help to re-balance your skin. Always massage outwards and upwards, and push on the tension points of the face to release stress and toxins in the muscles. I love Caudalie’s Vinosource Overnight Recovery Oil which gives you a smooth, bright complexion and acts as a perfect base for your makeup.

A week or so before the wedding, book in for an expert facial to make sure your skin is looking its very best. My lifting facial is like a workout for your face muscles, leaving you with higher cheekbones and a defined jawline for a youthful look to your skin. I also practice the Nichola Joss ‘inner facial’ technique, where I massage muscle tissue from inside the mouth, to increase blood flow and lift the whole face. If puffiness is your problem, a lymphatic drainage massage can reduce any swelling and boost circulation for a brighter complexion.

HOW TO HANDLE BEAUTY NIGHTMARES ON YOUR WEDDING DAY

Tan secrets
Get booked in for a tanning session the day before your wedding; a contouring tan is my favourite way to look lean and toned in an instant! Just before applying your tan, massage the body to firm up your muscles and remove any puffiness, then take a warm shower with a blast of cold water at the end (you’ll thank me later!). Apply tan all over your body, starting at the ankle and working up the body to prevent creases forming in the tan. Take a mitt afterwards and gently buff the insides of your arms and wrists for a more natural look. Once it’s dry, use your mitt and a self-tan mousse to shadow and contour. Shade above and below the collarbone, and on the outside of the arms for a defined, toned appearance. I love Chocolate Sun Cocoa Lite, which is an all-natural fake tan.

Skin finishing
The final step is one so many brides forget, but it makes all the difference, especially in your photographs. Skin finishing is the application of radiance powders and contouring creams into key areas on show, such as the décolletage and shoulders. It’s subtle but it really lifts and finishes the skin so it’s HD-camera ready and gives you that A-lister look for your big day. All of my celebrity clients love the look that skin finishing gives – it’s a red carpet must-have, so it’s perfect for your walk down the aisle too!
