Pastel hair has been big for a long time, but the rainbow hair trend recently boomed on social media. We chat all things My Little Pony hair.
Pastel hair: a very brief history
Pastel pink hair has dated right back to the 1700s, with the infamous Marie Antoinette treating her hair with saffron, turmeric, sandalwood and rhubarb in order to achieve a strawberry blonde effect.
[post_ads]It's also been pretty hot in film and popular culture over the years, with some of our favourite pastel pink hair looks seen on the fabulous Natalie Portman in Closer and the uber cool Juergen Teller portrait of Kate Moss in the late 90s.
The 21st century saw a rise in pastel hair trends, and a whole range of colours as well as pink started to become seriously popular. In recent years, the trend has boomed ten-fold due to innovations in social media, especially in the form of our beloved Instagram.

"Pastel hair colours are always a Summer hit and look great particularly on blondes as the colour really shines through... pastel tones are a playful way to update your look for summer. Most pastel shades tend to last between two to ten washes so they're a great way to temporarily update your look with minimal commitment!"
Products to use:
For a long-lasting pastel colour, we recommend visiting a hair salon, as they are able to assist in lightening your hair before applying colour.

For a more temporary fix, however, the above products are excellent in giving a lovely wash of colour.
[post_ads] Bleach's temporary super cool colour washes are only £5 a pop and are perfect for giving a subtle shot of colour for a short amount of time (which is ideal for commitment-a-phobes). The Crazy Colour semi-permanent colour creams are also fantastic, and come in a large range of shades, including a unique pastel bubblegum colour. For a more intense blue, we recommend looking at hair colours by Fudge. Use their electric blue Paintbox creative conditioning colour for a strong blue, or for a pretty mermaid-esque turquoise shade, go for their Urban colour hair art spray in Turquoise Noise.
We also really love hair chalks. Check out our feature on those here.
