More and more beauty brands are paying attention to inclusivity lately — and it’s about time. From campaigns to shade ranges, companies are visibly thinking about representation when they introduce their latest launches. And today, nail brand Orly is filling a huge gap in the U.S. market with their announcement of a halal-certified polish collection. The breathable lacquers, called #HalalPaint, are a cool collab with MuslimGirl.com founder Amani Al-Khatahtbeh.
[post_ads]“This line is important because there are so many girls and young women who aren't represented in mainstream beauty,” explains Amani. “They either don’t fit that definition or see things about them that are designed without them, instead of for them and by them.”
The $49 capsule collection also features a unique, permeable formula made from 100% halal ingredients. While some Muslim women forego nail polish because of the barrier it creates on the nails (blocking ablution water for prayer), #HalalPaint allows water to pass through the color, creating a solution that’s nothing short of genius. (According to Orly, the customized formula also results in a longer-lasting manicure that helps hydrate the nail.) And to put their own spin on the line, the Muslim Girl team came up with shade names that range from “The Perfect Amani-cure” to “Haram-Bae.”“Many of us are the girls who could never find our names on a keychain,” says Amani. “We wanted to make sure we provided that experience through this collection.”
