A couple months ago I started following Rocio Cervantes (a.k.a. @rocioceja_) on Instagram for the colorful closeups of her unique eye makeup looks. Even though she doesn't call herself a makeup artist, she has a signature style that would make you think she's a pro. And one of those signatures is negative space stars placed right at the inner corners of her eyes (an area that rarely sees any makeup other than highlighter or beige pencil). As someone who follows almost 2,000 MUAs (pro, novice, and aspiring alike) on Instagram, I can confidently say I've never seen anyone do something like this so consistently. The simple inner detail adds an edginess to even the most basic, neutral smoky eyes and helps her impressive eye makeup look even more impressive.
[post_ads]After months of drooling over Cervantes's star-studded looks (literally), and wondering how she does it, she finally revealed her secrets. Last night, she posted a video on Instagram of her process, and I can't stop watching. First, she picks up a star sticker with a pair of tweezers. She doesn't note the exact kind of sticker she uses, but she's said in the past they're from a craft store. Personally, I'm a fan of the Flirt Cosmetics Chicers because they're made to be stuck on your face. Cervantes starts the process by placing the star a couple centimeters away from her tear duct. From there, she sweeps white powder eye shadow over the sticker, onto the inner corners of her eyes. Then she tops the shadow with a glittery highlighter. Once she's done applying her makeup, Cervantes carefully plucks off the sticker with tweezers. Once it's lifted away, she's left with a perfect star shape.

You can also cover your whole lid in stickers for a galaxy of negative space stars.Now that I know the method behind her madness, you can bet I'll be rocking some negative-space stars at brunch this weekend.
