Full disclosure: I judged this book by its cover. Despite my mother and teachers warning me against doing such a thing in elementary school, all of that went out the window when several shades of the ISH Shimmy Shadow landed on my desk a couple months ago. They lingered on a corner of my desk until I recently unearthed them after doing some spring cleaning. I unboxed the charcoal shade called Disco Ball first. After unscrewing the top of the shadow, I looked down to see a crumbly concoction packed with Day 1 of Coachella's worth of glitter. Nightmare scenarios of accidentally turning myself into human disco ball started playing out in my mind, and I was tempted to put the cap back on and go on with my life.
[post_ads]Honestly, the name of the under-the-radar beauty brand, which was started by Joey Maalouf, a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with Kendall Jenner and Goldie Hawn, and FabFitFun, threw me off, too. ISH actually is an abbreviation for something — not a reference to issues, stylishness, or any word that ends with -ish. In fact, ISH stands for I'm Smoking Hot. As a person who definitely doesn't consider herself to be conventionally hot in any way, shape, or form, that name simultaneously intimidated me and made my eyes roll. However, the second I started swatching the shadow on the back of my hand, I immediately wanted to take back everything I ever thought about the shadow. My negativity towards it was replaced with sheer wonder and excitement.
All I had to do with gently press the tip of my ring finger into the shadow to pick up the right amount of pigment. Once I started rubbing the Shimmy Shadow onto my skin, the flaky texture transformed into a smooth, intensely pigmented powder. Because the shade I picked was black, it reminded me of rubbing ashes — super shimmery ashes, that is. My jaw literally dropped as the glitter seemed to melt into my skin and began to shine brighter than it looked in the jar. I was convinced that this was what Sia had in mind when she wrote "Diamonds" for Rihanna.

I've used a lot of glitter makeup in my day, with Stila's Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow being one of my favorites. Something about the ISH Shimmy Shadow is completely different from everything else I've tried, though. The magic act alone is unique to this product. Then, you have the big reveal AKA the most glittery lids in the game. My go-to shade at the moment is About Last Night (the copper I swatched above). However, Disco Ball is perfect for a sooty smoky eye that almost makes me feel like I'm smoking hot. The best part is once the shadow is all rubbed in, it doesn't budge. Despite the flakes seeming like they would get everywhere but your lids, in it's final form, it stays put.
