You may love the idea of your makeup staying in place even when you are taking a dip in the pool. Let us hear it from cosmetologist Dr Nandita Das.
Are waterproof cosmetics safe?
You must understand that makeup that lasts through sweat and oil is heavy and contain certain ingredients that could be damaging to the skin. Waterproof makeup contains special ingredients that secure all the pigments in place; it is only safe to use as long as you are using a natural variety, free of chemicals. A few ingredients in waterproof cosmetics may not be safe for use. Apart from animal and vegetable-based waxes, polymers and waxes, waterproof makeup contains silicones which can clog your pores and lead to breakouts, skin irritation and even skin allergies. Waterproof foundations commonly contain silicones. Also, waterproof mascara may stay put even in the pool, but they do not contain conditioning agents like seed oil and argan oil, so you might just end up with dry eye lashes.
How to remove waterproof makeup?
You also need to invest in a good cleanser to remove the thick waterproof makeup. Olive oil can be excellent when it comes to removing waterproof mascara. Just apply a little olive oil on your lids and lashes, let it sit for a few minutes and then gently rinse the area. The old fashioned cold cream can be perfect to remove the waterproof makeup from your face and neck.
Tip
Instead of directly switching to waterproof makeup, you can simply start using the water resistant ones if you are worried about sweat. Water resistant makeup is lighter as compared to waterproof makeup and can do the same job but with less weight.
