As Halloween approaches, I'm looking for any excuse to buy fun new
makeup to incorporate into my look. My everyday look is pretty basic and
practical, but I do love color and look for any excuse
to buy highly pigmented shadows and lip colors. While I haven't settled
on a costume yet, makeup artist Vanessa Davis may have just given me a
great idea — that is, if I can muster up the skills to pull it off. PopSugar
found her wildly popular Instagram account (which boasts nearly 300k
followers) and it's easy to see why she has such a devoted following
— she specializes in holographic, neon makeup that makes her look like a
skeleton going to a fancy rave, and it's hauntingly beautiful.
Davis names each of her looks; the above is called the Aurora
Borealis Butterfly Skull. According to PopSugar, she's inspired by
color, tattoos and tattoo artists, and human anatomy. It's clear that
she's inspired by the human body, as many of her looks are
hyper-realistic (even though they are technicolor). She doesn't just use
makeup, either — she also uses tiles, gems, and other props to bring
her ideas to life.
If you want to follow Davis for Halloween (or everyday) inspo, check out her Instagram feed here.
